IPL 2024: Hardik lauds 'unbelievable' Ashutosh, 'chuffed for his future'
Mumbai Indians (MI) beat Punjab Kings (PBKS) by nine runs in match 33 of the IPL 2024 edition, on Thursday evening (April 18) in Mullanpur, Chandigarh. Hardik Pandya-led side rode on Suryakumar Yadav's 78, Rohit Sharma's 36 and Tilak Varma's 34* (18) to post 193-7 whereas Punjab were 14-4, and further reduced to 111-7, before Shashank Singh (41) and Ashutosh Sharma (28-ball 61) revived their run-chase. Nonetheless, Punjab eventually fell short as they were dismissed for 183 in 19.1 overs.
Despite Punjab losing yet another close encounter in the ongoing edition, Ashutosh continued to make giant strides in the 2024 season. He has been making runs consistently despite batting at No. 8. He, along with Shashank, pulled off a heist versus Gujarat Titans (GT) -- in pursuit of 200 -- in match 17and almost replicated their performance versus MI.
Thus, MI captain Hardik heaped praise on Ashutosh's hitting abilities during the post-match presentation.
Hardik opined on the overall contest and stated, "Very good game of cricket. Everyone's nerve got tested. We did speak about before the game that the character will be checked in this game. Naturally you think you're ahead in the game. But we knew IPL has a tendency to produce these games."

Hardik then spoke about Ashutosh and added, "Unbelievable - coming in and playing like that (Ashutosh's knock). Almost every ball hitting the middle. Happy for him and chuffed for his future."

Ashutosh top-scored for Punjab with a brilliant 28-ball 61, laced with 2 fours and as many as 7 sixes at 217.86, in a tough chase versus the five-time champions.
