India's para athlete Sumit Antil won the gold in men's javelin throw F64 event on Monday (Sep 2) at the ongoing Paris Paralympics 2024. Sumit threw for 70.59 metres in his second attempt to win the gold, setting a new Paralympic record as well. Watch the golden throw below:

India now has 14 medals in the quadrennial games, with three gold, five silver, and six bronze medals.
Apart from Sumit, there were two more Indian para athletes who took part in the same event, i.e., Sandeep andSanjay Sandip Sargar. While Sandeep finished fourth with the best throw of 62.80 metres in his third attempt, Sanjay finished seventh among 10 athletes, with the best throw of 58.03 metres in his third of six attempts.
Sri Lanka'sDulan Kodithuwakku won the silver with the throw of 67.03 metres while Australia's Michal Burian won the bronze with the throw of 64.89 metres.

India had a great day in the event with Suhas Yathiraj, Manisha Ramadass and Thulasimathi Murugesan winning a silver, bronze and a silver in their respective sports as well.
Suhas won the silver in men's singles badminton SL4 category, losing 21-9, 21-13 to France's Lucas Mazur.
Ramadass, on the other hand, won the bronze in women's singles badminton SU5 category by beating Denmark's Cathrine Rosengren 21-12, 21-8 in straight sets. She also became the first Indian woman shuttler to win a medal at the Paralympics.
Murugesan, meanwhile, lost her gold medal match to China's Yang Qiuxia 21-17, 21-10 in the same event as Ramadass, but got the silver - her first Paralympic medal.
India's mixed archery team of Rakesh Kumar and Sheetal Devi won a bronze by beating Italian duo of Eleonora Sarti and Matteo Bonacina by one point. The final score was 156-155 in favour of the Indian duo.
Earlier, India' Nitesh Kumar won a gold in men's singles badminton SL3 category. Nitesh beat Great Britain's Daniel Bethell 21-14, 18-21, 23-21 to win India's second gold.
This is India's second consecutive gold in the event (SU3 badminton), having won it in the Tokyo Paralympics 2021 as well.
Pramod Bhagat had won the gold last time in the SL3 category in the Tokyo Paralympics 2021 by beating Bethell. It was in Tokyo that para badminton made its debut in the Paralympics.
