Security beefed up in Bangladesh ahead of National Mourning Day on Aug 15: Reports

Security will be beefed up in violence-hit Bangladeshon the occasion of National Mourning Day on Thursday (Aug15), local media reported on Tuesday (Aug 13). The Awami League is preparing to pay tributes to the father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, in Dhaka on Thursday, commemorating the 49th anniversary of his assassination.

Citing Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah, a report by The Daily Star on Monday said that though there was no specific report of threat by intelligence agencies, law enforcement officials would remain vigilant and take all-out security measures to avert any untoward incident considering the recent protests and situation.

DMP Miah placed a set of directivesfor ensuring security and traffic management, which will have to be adhered to from Wednesday in the area.

The directives

Grassroot leaders and activists of the Awami League would gather at theBangabandhu Memorial Museum on Dhanmondi Road, Dhaka, to pay tributes to Rahman. This event is expected to start early Thursday.

The police said that visitors, without any combustible substance or bags, have to enter the museum through a security archway and leave from the opposite side way.

Vehicular movement will be restricted from Russell Square and Metro Shopping Mall and no vehicle will be allowed to park between Kalabagan Playground and Sobhanbagh mosque on Mirpur Road, the police added.
