Top Lashkar-e-Taiba commanderAbu Dujana hasbeen killed in a gunbattle with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama.
The gunbattle broke out, officials said, after a cordon-and-search operation was launched in Hakripora village.
The security forces had got news that Dujana and a local accomplice Arif Lilhaari were in the area.
Both Dujana and Lilhaari were killed in the gunbattle.
The news agency PTI reported that as the gunbattlebroke out, more thana 100 protesters began pelting stones at the security forces.
PTI reported an official as saying the security forces used tear gas, pellet guns, and a few live rounds to disperse the protesters.
The official said two persons were injured.
Jehangir Ahmad Dar was hit in the back by a bullet and Mudasir Ahmad was hit in the chest by pellets.
The official said both had been admitted to different hospitals.
ANI reported that all schools and colleges have been closed in Kashmir as a precautionary measure.
And that mobile internet services have been blocked.
Dujana, reportedly from northern Pakistan, was wanted for a number of attacks on security forces and political workers.
He was thought of as a "Category A" terrorist, and carried a Rs 10 lakh reward on his head.
