A prominent Pakistani politician was recently spotted sharing the dais with the Pahalgam attack mastermind Saifullah Khalid, who is Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) deputy chief, and Talha Saeed, son of LeT chief and 26/11 Mumbai attacks mastermind Hafiz Saeed, at a rally in Pakistan, further providing evidence of how the nation continues to foster and support cross-border terrorism. Pakistan is in the dock for fostering cross-border terrorism, and both its administration and military are accused of having links with terrorists who move around freely and attend crowded functions with impunity. The incident happened in Pakistan’s Punjab province, where the speaker of the state assembly, Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan, was seen attending a rally with LeT deputy chief Saifullah Khalid, also known as “Kasuri”, who is one of the masterminds of the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam and a US-designated terrorist. Talha Saeed, who is the de facto head of the terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba, was also on the stage. Because I have a personal connection with the place (Kasur—the town where the May 28 rally took place), organisers also called me and I went,” he said.Another clip showed Kasuri calling India an enemy state (dushman) and claimed he was ‘wrongfully’ accused as the mastermind of the Pahalgam terror attack. He even boasted of becoming more famous after India’s charges. The Indian authorities are closely watching the developments, as the LeT is a banned terror organisation but continues to operate openly in Pakistan, often holding public gatherings under the guise of charity or nationalist causes. The presence of high-profile politicians at such gatherings raises questions about Pakistan’s commitment to fighting terrorism. The rally was organised by the Pakistan Markazi Muslim League (PMML) to mark Youm-e-Takbeer and also featured food minister Malik Rasheed Ahmad Khan and close associates of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz. The presence of top LeT operatives at the rally attracted attention from foreign policy observers, especially after some of them boasted publicly about having avenged Pakistan’s 1971 defeat to India.

Pakistan is in the dock for fostering cross-border terrorism, and both its administration and military are accused of having links with terrorists who move around freely and attend crowded functions with impunity.

Traders on the Karakoram Highway in Gilgit-Baltistan have been protesting for the fourth consecutive day over the levying of taxes by the Pakistan Government. They argue that Gilgit-Baltistan is a disputed region, even though Pakistan can administer it, they can't impose taxes.Protestors have been demanding the clearance of over 240 consignments stuck at Sost Dry port for the past seven months. Ashfaq Ahmed, President of Gilgit Baltistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, says that employment of 20 thousand traders are associated with this port and these traders are being impacted by the implementation of the port.

According to a report by BBC Urdu, the 24-hour sit-in protest has greatly impacted tourism. Tourists have been stranded on both sides due to the closure of the Karakoram Highway. It had been four days since the protest started, till Monday, and the traders have warned of extended action if the demands are not met. The protest was called by the Pak-China Traders Action Committee: an alliance between the Gilgit-Baltistan Importer and Exporter Association, Gilgit Nagar Chamber of Commerce, and small trade Associations from Nagar, Hunza and Gilgit. The traders say that the Gilgit-Baltistan region has no major source of income, and the Khunjerab Pass between China and Pakistan was the biggest source of income for the locals.Pakistan and China have a border agreement of 1985 that permits permanent residents of Gilgit-Baltistan to exchange goods across the border using traditional barter methods. The traders say that policies of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and the Customs collectorate are not allowing the domiciles of the GB region with a border pass to trade with Xinjiang of China. Despite the disputed status of the region Pakistan Revenue Department, through a notification, established a check post for sales tax. "Small traders have been exploited for the last five years with various excuses, which we strongly condemn," read a press release from the Gilgit Baltistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The traders demand full exemption from all illegal taxes, instead of customs duty. They also want a Special Trade Facilitation Package because of the special status of the region. The traders' associations have warned that they will approach the Pakistani Supreme Court and international forums such as the International Court of Justice if their demands are not met.

More than a month after India suspended the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan, water levels in key rivers across Pakistan have fallen sharply, especially in Punjab province. The latest data from Pakistan’s Indus River System Authority (IRSA) shows that the water flow in the Indus and Jhelum rivers has reduced significantly. Senior leaders of the banned Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD), the Pakistan-based extremist outfit founded by 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks mastermind Hafiz Saeed, have claimed credit for the ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh, saying that they took revenge for Pakistan’s dismemberment in 1971, and revealed that they played a role in the massive anti-government protests last year in Dhaka. The provocative claims were made in public speeches earlier this week by JuD leaders Saifullah Kasuri and Muzammil Hashmi.Hashmi is a UN-designated terrorist. Speaking at a rally in Allahabad, near Rahim Yar Khan in Pakistan’s Punjab province, Kasuri invoked the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, and called the 2024 unrest in Dhaka a “revenge” for it. “I was four years old when Pakistan was dismembered in 1971. There had been numerous cases of enforced disappearance in Balochistan. Amnesty International calls Balochistan a zone of impunity. According to Human Rights Watch, many disappeared people are tortured and traumatised while their loved ones protest holding their picture, only to discover their remains in a mass grave later. There had also been reports of military aggression, extrajudicial killings. One such incident was of Bakhtiar Ahmed Baloch, who was brutally shot by the Frontier Corps (FC) after he reportedly urged security forces not to conduct search operations in residential areas that were distressing women and children.According to the Pakistan Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances (COIED), between 2011 and 2024, there were cases of 8,463 missing persons and 10,078 cases of enforced disappearances The disappearance of Maharang Baloch, a human rights activist who championed resistance in the most conflict-ridden region of Pakistan, had raised eyebrows in the international community back in 2024. "Women who challenge the status quo face not only political persecution but also threats of gender-based violence," read a report by Amnesty International.Pakistan is a signatory to the human rights treaties like the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). The event was disturbing also for the fact that instead of distancing themselves from terrorists, top Pak officials were seen welcoming the terrorists and applauding them. In a disturbing statement in the event, Malik Rasheed said that “24 crore Pakistanis are today represented by men like Hafiz Saeed and Saifullah Kasuri." Furthermore, the minister announced that the Shehbaz Sharif-led government will offer a job to the brother of Mudasir, a Lashkar commander killed in India’s airstrike on the group’s Muridke headquarters

"On the night of May 9-10, we decided to respond in a measured fashion to Indian aggression. Our armed forces were prepared to act at 4.30 in the morning after Fajr prayers to teach a lesson," Sharif said during a speech in Lachin, Azerbaijan. "But before that hour even arrived, India once again launched a missile attack using BrahMos, targeting various provinces of Pakistan, including the airport in Rawalpindi," Sharif said. Indian Defence Forces had earlier revealed that the Nur Khan airbase in Rawalpindi was among the 11 military sites targeted by India in response to Pakistan's drone and missile attacks on bordering states. Cross-border terrorism no more a proxy war, it’s Pakistan’s military strategy: PM Modi

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday (May 26) expressed his desire to talk to India to resolve issues between the two countries. This comes as India reached out to various countries around the globe in a bid to expose Pakistan-based terrorism. The Pakistani PM said that he wants peace and is ready to talk on Kashmir, the Indus Water Treaty and terrorism. Addressing a joint press conference with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Sharif in Tehran said, "We want to resolve all disputes, including the Kashmir issue and the water issue, through negotiations and are also ready to talk to our neighbour on trade and counter-terrorism,” he said. The Pakistani PM also said that Islamabad wants peace, but did not speak on his country's support to terrorists. "If they accept my offer of peace, then we will show that we really want peace, seriously and sincerely," he said. Pakistan's PM Sharif also met Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. In a measured response to the India-Pakistan conflict, Khamenei in a post on X said, “We're pleased at the cessation of conflicts between Pakistan and India, and we hope the disputes between the two countries will be resolved.”

Terror and trade cannot take place. Blood and water cannot flow together. I want to tell the international community that if there will be talks between India and Pakistan, it will only be on terrorism and POK," PM Modi had said.
Pak PM's visit to “friendly nations”
Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif embarked on a four-nation trip this week to seek support from allied nations against India’s Operation Sindoor. He visited Turkey and met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. In what is being seen as an unusual move, Field Marshal Asim Munir accompanied Pakistani PM as he held bilateral talks with the Turkish counterpart. The Pakistani delegation that also includes Pakistan's foreign minister Ishaq Dar will also visit Azerbaijan and Tajikistan.
