Sambhal violence: Judicial commission team arrives to probe violence

India's GDP growth has disappointed expectations, with the economy growing by just 5.4 per cent in the July-September quarter of FY2024-25, significantly below the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) forecast of 7 per cent.

She said, "The sharply lower-than-expected GDP figures reflect the highly disappointing corporate earnings data. The manufacturing sector appears to have taken the maximum beating. The high-frequency data suggests that festive linked revival in activity may provide a marginally better 2H growth figure, but overall GDP growth for FY25 is going to be around 100bps lower than RBI's estimate of 7.2 per cent."

She added, "Despite the sharp slowdown in GDP growth, we maintain our view of a pause by the RBI next week given elevated inflation and an uncertain global environment."

Sujan Hajra, Chief Economist &amp; Executive Director at Anand Rathi Shares and Stock Brokers, also weighed in on the GDP data, explaining that the 5.4 per cent growth in Q2 fell short of both their own projection (6.7 per cent) and the street's estimate (6.5 per cent).

He said, "This weakness in the numbers was largely due to discrepancies; net of these, GDP growth remained at a healthy 7.5 per cent. On the production side, weaker growth was observed in the industrial segment, while the services sector, where we had expected 8 per cent growth, recorded a healthy but slightly lower expansion of 7.1 per cent. Agriculture, on the other hand, expanded at a strong pace, as reflected in the advanced estimates for Kharif output.

"While we are not revising our full-year growth projection of 7 per cent thus implying a 7.9 per cent growth in H2, we will closely monitor the momentum going forward. We believe that growth in the second half (H2) will be driven by continued strength in agriculture, which is expected to boost rural demand further and increase in capital expenditure (capex) from both central and state governments. Additionally, moderation in the industrial sector's base should support stronger growth, especially with the complete monsoon season," he added.

Ajit Pawar says Maharashtra CM will be from BJP, allies to get deputy CM posts

Cyclone Fengal made&nbsp;landfall in India's southernmost state of Tamil Nadu on Saturday&nbsp;(Nov 30) evening. The storm is likely to cross the Tamil Nadu coast in the next three&nbsp;hours, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD).&nbsp;

The cyclone was expected to bring strong winds of&nbsp;70-80 km/h, gusting to 90 km/h, during the afternoon of November 30 in&nbsp;parts of Tamil Nadu, South Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and interior Karnataka as well as&nbsp;Puducherry.

The IMD&nbsp;also issued&nbsp;a red alert&nbsp;for at least ten&nbsp;districts of the states in southern India&nbsp;given incessant rainfall.

News agency PTI reported that authorities had sent alerts and text messages to at least 1.2 million residents ahead of the landfall.&nbsp;

Chennai IMD Head S Balachandran said, “It is lying at about 100kms south-east of Chennai and Northeast of Puducherry. It is moving at the rate of 10km/hour. It is likely to cross near Puducherry by today evening," reported news agency ANI.

He added, "There will be extremely heavy rainfall... The day after tomorrow, the system will move westward... The wind speed will be 70-80 kmph at the time of crossing, gusting to 90 kmph."

Operations at the Chennai airport have also been suspended till 4:00 am (local time)&nbsp;Sunday morning.&nbsp;Media reports citing official sources said the two runways and the taxiway at the Chennai airport were inundated,&nbsp;as a result,&nbsp;around&nbsp;55 flights were cancelled and 19 others were diverted. Delhi Police on Saturday detained a bus marshal for throwing a liquid, which the police said was water on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal during his padyatra (walk on foot).

Kejriwal was conducting his padyatra in Delhi's Greater Kailash area when the incident happened.

As per the police, the AAP Chief was shaking hands with the public when a person namely Ashok Jha attempted to throw "water" on Arvind Kejriwal, but he was immediately caught as the police staff was nearby along with ropes.

"The said attempt was foiled and the person was detained. The alleged person is serving as a Bus Marshal at Khanpur Depot. Further examination of the person is in progress to find out the reasons behind this act," the police said.

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi claimed that the accused was a BJP worker.

"Today in broad daylight, a BJP worker attacked Arvind Kejriwal ji. The BJP is feeling very nervous about losing the Delhi elections for the third time.&nbsp;

Many of the damaged vehicles belonged to railway employees who had parked their two-wheelers in the lot. One railway worker shared his experience of a narrow escape. "I parked my bike around 12 am. One of the people near the vehicle parking told me that a short circuit had occurred around 11 pm and was fixed. A few hours later, a passenger informed me about a fire outside. I quickly moved my bike to the other side, and soon the flames spread across the parking lot" he said.

Dramatic visuals from the scene showed towering flames and thick clouds of smoke filling the air, as the fire quickly spread through the parking area. Emergency services, including over 12 fire brigade vehicles, were dispatched to control the flames. Teams from the Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF) and local police also joined the efforts. After two hours of intense firefighting, the blaze&nbsp;was finally brought under control.

JN Ray Hospital, located in Maniktala, a residential area of North Kolkata, made the decision public on Friday (Nov 29). According to hospital officials, the move is a direct response to recent incidents where the Indian flag was allegedly insulted by Bangladeshi nationals.

Subhranshu Bhakta, the hospital's director, explained that while medical care is a noble profession, the dignity of the nation takes precedence. "Country is above all. Out of 22 subways, 21 of them have had smooth traffic flow so far.&nbsp;

As per the forecast, this Cyclonic storm is expected to cross the coast between North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry regions, specifically between Karaikal and Mamallapuram, during the afternoon hours on Saturday, 30th November. At the time of the system's crossing, wind speeds are expected to range between 70-90kmph. Owing to this system and its possible impact, for Friday and Saturday, heavy to very heavy rainfall warning has been issued for more than 20 districts across the Tamil Nadu Coast. This includes a Red alert for Chennai and adjoining districts on Saturday. In a few districts of the state, the spillover effects of this cyclonic storm could continue to bring rainfall even on Sunday and Monday. Gujarat’s Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) arrested Dipesh Gohil, a resident of Arambhada village in Okha Mandal taluka of Dev Bhoomi Dwarka district, on the charges of criminal conspiracy and waging war against the government under sections 61 and 147 respectively of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

According to Indian officials, the repairman was contacted by a Pakistani agent, named Sahima, on Facebook. The operative told Gohil that she worked with the Pakistani Navy and would pay him INR 200 per day ($2.3/day) if he provided info about the names and number of Coast Guard ships arriving at the Okha jetty and their movement.

Officials revealed that the repairman was paid about $500 over the last seven months. The amount was transferred to the bank accounts of three of Gohil’s friends as the repairman didn’t have one of his own.

A&nbsp;court in Mumbai&nbsp;on Friday (Nov 29) extended the police custody of 27-year-old Aditya Pandit until Monday in connection with the suicide case of Air India pilot Srishti Tuli. The pilot was found dead in her rented apartment near Marol Police Quarters in Mumbai on November 25. Police sought the extension to gather more evidence and retrieve details of deleted WhatsApp communication that could provide additional&nbsp;clues regarding the events leading to the death.

Earlier, a police statement said Tuli had made a video call to her friend Aditya ahead of taking the extreme step. During the call, Tuli reportedly threatened Pandit that she would commit suicide. Indian Express reported citing police officers that Tuli showed Aditya during the video call that she was about to hang herself.

The duo talked at least 10 times over the phone as Tuli was travelling to her home.

Pandit later reached Tuli’s home and found the place locked. Upon finding the 25-year-old woman unresponsive, Pandit took her to hospital. She was later pronounced dead by doctors at Seven Hills Hospital in Marol.

Police said Tuli could be mentally unstable owing to harassment by Pandit, who himself had been preparing for the pilot exam but failed.

“Pandit's arrest stems from his failure to alert the police about Tuli's threats and his decision to access her locked residence without police involvement. His position as the last person in contact with the deceased has raised suspicion about his potential involvement," the police stated.

This also comes during the time as there have been protests in Bangladesh over the arrest of the former priest of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) Bangladesh, Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, on sedition charges.&nbsp;

He was accused of hoisting a saffron flag above the Bangladesh national flag during a rally in October.&nbsp;

A bus travelling from the Indian state of Maharashtra's Bhandara to Gondia lost control on Friday (Nov 29) and overturned, killing at least 10 people and injuring over two dozen others, the police said.&nbsp;

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis offered condolences to the families of the victims.&nbsp;

The family of a groom called off a wedding in the Indian state of Rajasthan after they received intimate videos of the 23-year-old bride just a day before the ceremony. The video was sent by a man from Surat, as reported by the Indian media outlets.

According to the media report, the father of the groom stopped the wedding after he received a video in which the bride was seen in a compromising manner.

The wedding took place in Sikar city of the Indian state of Rajasthan on November 10.

The accused, who was identified as Jishan, had allegedly threatened the family of the victim and asked them to send him money if they did not want him to circulate the videos.

After the wedding was cancelled, the grandfather of the victim registered a Zero FIR against the accused at Kotwali police station in the Churu district of the Indian state of Rajasthan. The FIR was later transferred to Limbayat police.

When the bride was confronted by her grandfather, she revealed that she had met the man in college and had been raped by him, after which he was blackmailing her.

Jishan was booked for rape, extortion and voyeurism by the police. The man's father, mother and brother were also booked for allegedly abetting the crime.

As per the FIR, both the victim and accused were originally from Churu but were living in Surat.

The victim was first befriended by Jishan, who then took her pictures which he used to allegedly blackmail her and threatened to show these pictures to the family if she declined to go with him to hotels.

The man allegedly raped the victim at hotels in Surat and also recorded the act. He then threatened the victim to give him money otherwise he would release the videos.

After the victim's family arranged her marriage with a man from Churu, she was allegedly threatened by Jishan who warned her not to marry the other man.

However, when she decided to go ahead with the marriage, the accused sent her intimate videos to the family of the groom.

"We received the Zero FIR from Kotwali police station of Churu, based on which we registered a case against Jishan and his family members," said a Limbayat police officer.

A 25-year-old pilot, who worked with Air India, allegedly died by suicide on Monday (November 25) and her body was found at her rented apartment in the Andheri suburb of the Indian city of Mumbai.

According to the girl's family, Srishti Tuli was publicly humiliated by her boyfriend for consuming non-veg food at a public event after which the 27-year-old man, identified as Aditya Pandit, was arrested by the police for abetment of suicide.&nbsp;

As per the police, Srishti belonged to Gorakhpur city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh and was facing mental health issues.&nbsp;

As per the reports, the girl was being insulted and verbally abused by her boyfriend in different instances.

According to the police, Aditya had even insulted her for eating non-vegetarian food in front of others at an event in Gurugram.&nbsp;

At the event, an argument ensued between them after which Aditya left the woman midway and went home.

On Sunday evening (November 24), when Srishti came back from work she had another argument with Aditya who was at her house. After that, Aditya departed for Delhi around 1 am on Monday (Nov 25).

Aditya then received Srishti's call in which she said that she was going to die by suicide after which he came back to her house.&nbsp;

On reaching her house, Aditya found the door locked and nobody was responding from the inside.

The lock was broken open by Aditya with the help of a key maker after which he discovered her unconscious. He then rushed Srishti to a hospital where she was declared dead.

A complaint was filed by Srishti's family members with the police against Aditya who was accused of abusing her after which the police arrested him on charges of abetment of suicide.

According to the details mentioned in the first information report (FIR), Pandit also forced Srishti Tuli to stop eating non-vegetarian food and change her food habits.

Srishti's uncle Vivekkumar Narendrakumar Tuli&nbsp;filed the FIR at Powai police station and&nbsp;mentioned several instances where she was ill-treated by Aditya.

According to the police, a transaction of Rs 65,000 had also taken place from Srishti's bank account to Aditya recently.

On Tuesday (Nov 26), Aditya was produced in the court and&nbsp;was sent to four-day police custody.&nbsp;

As per the postmortem report, the cause of Srishti's death was strangulation. However, no suicide letter was discovered in the room of the pilot.

Eknath Shinde, the alliance partner of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Mahayuti alliance in the Western Indian state of Maharashtra, said Wednesday (Nov 27) that he is “not the kind who gets upset” amid deadlock over the chief minister post.

Addressing a presser over CM suspense, Shinde, the leader of Shiv Sena and an ally of BJP, said, “The huge amount of votes we received was only because of the work we did. We are really the real brothers of our 'Ladli Behens', and they kept this in mind before voting.”

“I am not the kind who gets upset, we are the kind of people who fight, fight for the people,” Shinde added. “All the work I do, I will do for the people of Maharashtra. What is important is not what I get, but what the people of the state get,” Shinde said.

The leader said that he didn’t do anything for popularity, adding that he told Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take the decision. “I told PM Modi, as the leader of NDA, you take the decision. And whatever decision you take will be final for us,” Shinde said. “I told PM Modi, as the leader of NDA, you take the decision. BJP’s top leadership has now summoned leaders from all three parties of the alliance to the capital New Delhi for further discussions.

Earlier on Wednesday, Fadnavis said the three alliance partners would decide the CM’s name collectively. "All three parties will form the government together," he said.

A report in the New Indian Express has claimed that Shinde wants to be appointed as convener of the Mahayuti government if not CM. Shinde is also reported to have asked for the deputy chief minister’s post for his Kalyan MP son, Shrikant.
