A fugitive criminal who had allegedly killed a teenager for sharing a social media post in 2021 has been apprehended from Uttarakhand's Rudrapur, said Delhi Police on Monday (March 3).
The accused, Bhuvan Joshi, was apprehended after an undercover head-constable posed as a momo seller to confirm his identification. Joshi had been absconding since the murder of the 17-year-old boy in Delhi's Uttam Nagar area.

The incident took place in December 2021, when the victim was abducted and stabbed to death by a group of men after his social media post sparked criticism. A case was registered at Uttam Nagar Police Station on complaint of the sister of the deceased.
During the investigation, all the other accused were arrested but Joshi managed to escape and was declared a proclaimed offender by a court in June 2022.

To apprehend him, the cops launched an operation. After diligent technical and field work, the team posted in the Southern Range of Crime Branch, Malviya Nagar, located the hideouts of absconding criminal Bhuvan Joshi in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand area.
It was revealed that the accused, Bhuvan Joshi, had changed his name and appearance and was running a food stall in Rudrapur.
In the operation, head constable Sonveer posed as a 'momo seller' to confirm the identity of the accused. He also gathered crucial information about the accused's movements and residence.
After persistent efforts, the accused was successfully identified and apprehended on March 2. During initial questioning, Bhuvan Joshi attempted to mislead the police, but, upon sustained interrogation, he confessed to his involvement in the murder case of PS Uttam Nagar. He was immediately arrested under appropriate sections of law and brought back to Delhi.

As per a Nav Bharat Times report, the men were using Google Maps to navigate from Kendriya Vihar Society of Phi-3 and Phi-2 towards Kasna Road Chowk when their speeding car suddenly fell into the 30-feet deep Hawalia nullah (drain). The driver, apparently oblivious to the road's end, which wasn't marked on Google Maps, drove right into the deep drain.

Earlier today, the Defence Minister called upon the people to contribute wholeheartedly to the welfare of soldiers and their families, terming it the national duty of every citizen while addressing the Armed Forces Flag Day Corporate Social Responsibility (AFFD CSR) Conclave in New Delhi.
Rajnath Singh stated that India's soldiers always stand firm, vigilant and ready at the borders in difficult conditions to protect the country from all kinds of threats with courage and promptness."While the Government is committed to strengthening India's security apparatus and ensuring the welfare of its soldiers and their families, it is the nation's collective responsibility to come forward and support them in every way possible," Singh said.

A man named Uzair reached out to them via social media and claimed that he would help Shahzadi remove her facial scars using plastic surgery in UAE. She, along with her family, agreed on the false promises.&nbsp;
In 2021, Shahzadi reached Abu Dhabi on a legal visa. But Uzair sent her to his relative Faiz's house to work as a domestic helper. She was confined to do household work - and there was no surgery or transformation.&nbsp;

In August 2022, Faiz and his wife welcomed a son and Shahzdi was assigned to take care of the baby. On December 7, the four-month-old child received a routine vaccine and on the same night, he died.&nbsp;
Faiz and his wife accused Shahzadi of killing their newborn baby. She was handed over to Abu Dhabi police in February 2023 and was sentenced to death on July 31, 2023.&nbsp;
"Uzair deceived my sister with false promises, taking ₹3 lakh in cash and jewellery from her while also collecting the same amount from his UAE relative to provide them with a maid," he said.
"She was a victim, not a criminal. She was innocent," Shahzadi's brother said.

Shahzadi Khan, a 33-year-old caregiver from Uttar Pradesh's Banda district, was convicted by an Abu Dhabi court for the death of a child under her care. She was sentenced to death on July 31, 2023.
She was allegedly deceived by a fraudster and trafficked to Abu Dhabi, where she was implicated in the crime that she had consistently denied committing.

Khan was promised treatment in the UAE for her burn injuries by a man named Uzair, whom she befriended on Facebook. The man claimed to be a social worker and a businessman from Agra in Uttar Pradesh.
&ldquo;Uzair told her he would be able to get her better medical attention in the UAE and, circumstances permitting, even a job,&rdquo; her father said. &ldquo;He told her his uncle and aunt lived in Abu Dhabi and they could help with a tourist visa. And she could work for them while she was there.&rdquo;

However, after arriving in the Gulf country in November 2021, she discovered that her visa was for six months and that she had been &ldquo;sold&rdquo; to a married couple as a labourer for a hefty sum of money. There, she was tasked to look after the couple&rsquo;s four-month-old baby.

The deceased has been identified as Thomas Gabriel Periera, who hailed from the southern state of Kerala.
The Indian Embassy in Jordan mourned Gabriel's demise and said that it is closely working with the authorities for the transportation of his mortal remains.

Gabriel's family said that they were informed about his death from one of their relatives' son who lives in London.
"My relative's son is in London and he is the one who called and informed me about this incident. We don't know what happened exactly. He left from here on 5th (February). On 9th (February), my sister received a call, it was just for 2 minutes. He just asked to pray for him and cut the call. Then we received an email and we got to know that he died after he was shot in the head and his body is lying at a govt hospital there. He once worked in Kuwait for 5 years...he didn't say anything to his wife and anyone, he left silently. He called once he reached there and then only he told where he went to," the family said.

The concerns over drones first came to the forefront during the 2019 drone attack on Saudi Arabia's Aramco oil facilities, which rattled the global market and pushed up oil prices. It was the first time that drones were used to target such infrastructure. But that was just the start of weaponisation of drones in the battlefield.&nbsp;
Conflicts like the Nagorno Karabakh saw usage of Azerbaijani drones against Armenia which became a template for conflicts globally. Widespread use of drones in the Russia-Ukraine war is well documented, which has been studied by top security officials globally. Lieutenant General Sumer Ivan D&rsquo;Cunha, the Army&rsquo;s Director General of Air Defence, stressed the relentless evolution of drone tech. &ldquo;New challenges to air power emerge constantly,&rdquo; he said.
Indian Army's measures include, neutralising threats before strikes, coming up with counter drone strategies, and protection of VAVPs or Vulnerable Areas and Vulnerable Points which basically means locations, assets, or installations that are deemed critical and at risk of aerial threats. The Indian Army identifies and prioritises these VAVPs to ensure they are safeguarded through enhanced air defence measures, including radar coverage, counter-drone systems, and missile or gun-based defences.&nbsp;
The Akashteer system is being used as part of a unified defence shield. Other measures include fortifying radars as part of the measures. Low Level Light Weight (LLLR) radar systems are being used as part of air defence modernization efforts, specifically designed to detect and track small, low-flying threats such as drones, unmanned aerial systems (UAS).

The central government has approved Rs 2,900 crore (332 million USD) for Project Lion. This initiative aims to protect and preserve the Asiatic lion population, which calls Gujarat its only home, according to a government release.
Currently, the Asiatic lions inhabit nearly 30,000 square kilometres across 53 talukas in 9 districts of Gujarat, it said.
"The foundation of Project Lion was laid on Independence Day, August 15, 2020, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address from the Red Fort, underscored the government's commitment to securing the future of Asiatic lions through community involvement, technology-driven conservation, wildlife healthcare, proper habitat management, and human-lion conflict mitigation," the release added.
Additionally, the Centre also approved a National Referral Center for Wildlife Health, with 20.24 hectares of land allocated in New Pipaliya, Junagadh district.

The mother of Congress worker Himani Narwal, whose dead body was found stuffed in a suitcase in Haryana's Rohtak, said that she is sure the accused is a known person either from the party, college or a relative.
"I am sure the accused is a known person, either someone from the party or someone from her college or our relative. The person who could come to her house is someone she trusted a lot. If anyone tried to hurt her trust, she would take action against them. No matter how big the person was, she couldn't tolerate even a single wrong word from anyone," she said on Monday (Mar 3).
"There's a difference between a friend and a boyfriend. She only focused on her work, and if someone tried to cross boundaries, she wouldn't even let them enter her gate. Something wrong must have happened," the mother added.
She then demanded a death penalty for the accused in the case.
"What will happen by meeting the accused? I want the death penalty. No one from the government has contacted us so far," she told news agency ANI.

Narwal's mother alleged that the Congress party and the elections, claimed the life of her daughter.
"The election and the party took my daughter's life. Because of this, she made some enemies. These (the culprits) could be from the party, could be her friends as well...On February 28, she was at home," Savita said.
She then said that the stature of her daughter was rising in the grand old party as she was close to the Hooda family and had also undertaken padayatra with Rahul Gandhi.
"She was going with Rahul Gandhi, she was close to the Hooda family, this is why people were having problems, they were jealous," she said.
"We received a phone call from Police Station (regarding the incident). My daughter was very close to Asha Hooda (wife of Bhupinder Singh Hooda), I won't perform her last rites until she gets justice," she added.
Congress Haryana president Bhupinder Singh Hooda strongly denounced the incident, calling it a "blot on the law and order situation of the state." He further demanded a "high-level" and "impartial" probe into the incident.&nbsp;
"The news of the barbaric murder of active Congress worker Himani Narwal in Rohtak is extremely sad and shocking. I pay my tribute to the departed soul and express my deepest condolences to the family members. The murder of a girl in this manner and finding her body in a suitcase is extremely sad and shocking. This in itself is a blot on the law and order situation of the state," Hooda said in a post on X.
"There should be a high level impartial investigation of this murder and the government should provide justice to the victim's family as soon as possible and provide the harshest punishment to the culprits," he added.
