The MoE also said that any such attempt to malign the image of a premier institution will face legal repercussions.&nbsp;
"Such a reckless statement seems to be an attempt to malign the image of an extremely reputed institution of the country. This institution has stood the test of time and produced some of the brightest minds in the country.&nbsp;

An unnamed official said, "The search operation in sugarcane fields with drones and dog squads was stopped at night. However, we received information that Gade had visited a house asking for food. We rushed to the spot, but he managed to flee. The family in the house gave him a bottle of water."&nbsp;
Pune police on Thursday deployed drones and a dog squad in Gunat village, the official said, further adding that the Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma also visited the village and briefed his officers.&nbsp;
He said the family informed the police about the accused's presence in the area, after which the police team resumed the search.&nbsp;

Typically, a hot beverage and a snack at an airport eatery could cost upwards of Rs.150.&nbsp;
The Kolkata Cafe has been a resounding success, with travellers expressing high satisfaction with the quality, taste and cost of the offerings. Following immense passenger demand, the initiative is now being expanded nationwide, the minister said. He added that this initiative was undertaken following passenger feedback, especially given how people from across socio-economic strata are now preferring air travel.
Specific to the Chennai airport, the minister said that work is underway to build Terminal 2 Phase 2, which would further enhance the annual capacity of the airport from the existing 22 million to 35 million. He added that the 86,135 sq meter expansion of Terminal 2 is underway to enhance international operations. Further, the refurbishment of Terminals 1 and 4 is progressing with an investment of over ₹75 crore.

On the proposed second airport for Chennai, the minister emphasized that the Central government was keen on building and developing more airports in the country, as it is directly linked to tourism, economic activity and progress. On the Parandur site where the new airport is proposed to be built, the minister clarified that the site selection is done by the state government, and the Centre had cleared it and offered in-principal approval, further consultations are to happen in the coming weeks and the due process would be followed. The Parandur airport project has been facing backlash from the agricultural land owners and farmers in the region.
Queried about the near-monopoly in India's airline sector, Naidu replied that the government wanted more airline operators in the country, but the main challenges are the massive investment required and the volatile nature of the business, which makes it hard to obtain support from banks. He assured that any airline wanting to enter the market would be handheld and supported by the government, as per process.

Inaugurating the country's second 'Udan Yatri Cafe' at the Chennai airport, Indian Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said that the government is setting up 'UDAN Yatri Cafes' that sell water bottles or tea at Rs.10 and coffee or snacks at Rs.20, to ensure that no passenger goes hungry at an airport. Typically, a hot beverage and a snack at an airport eatery could cost upwards of Rs.150. The Kolkata Cafe has been a resounding success, with travellers expressing high satisfaction with the quality, taste and cost of the offerings. Following immense passenger demand, the initiative is now being expanded nationwide, the minister said. He added that this initiative was undertaken following passenger feedback, especially given how people from across socio-economic strata are now preferring air travel. Specific to the Chennai airport, the minister said that work is underway to build Terminal 2 Phase 2, which would further enhance the annual capacity of the airport from the existing 22 million to 35 million. He added that the 86,135 sq meter expansion of Terminal 2 is underway to enhance international operations. Further, the refurbishment of Terminals 1 and 4 is progressing with an investment of over ₹75 crore. New airport in Chennai On the proposed second airport for Chennai, the minister emphasized that the Central government was keen on building and developing more airports in the country, as it is directly linked to tourism, economic activity and progress. On the Parandur site where the new airport is proposed to be built, the minister clarified that the site selection is done by the state government, and the Centre had cleared it and offered in-principal approval, further consultations are to happen in the coming weeks and the due process would be followed. The Parandur airport project has been facing backlash from the agricultural land owners and farmers in the region. Queried about the near-monopoly in India's airline sector, Naidu replied that the government wanted more airline operators in the country, but the main challenges are the massive investment required and the volatile nature of the business, which makes it hard to obtain support from banks. He assured that any airline wanting to enter the market would be handheld and supported by the government, as per process.

The special teams have been equipped with a range of cutting-edge tools, including a plasma cutting machine, a Brocho cutting machine, a portable air compressor, six plasma cutters, ultra-thermic cutting equipment, and various welding and cutting consumables. With SCR at the forefront, the rescue mission also involves personnel from the Army, Navy, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and rat miners, all working together to remove silt and debris from the tunnel.
As per ANI, rescue workers were employing plasma cutters to detach damaged sections of the tail portion of the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), which was obstructing access to the tunnel's endpoint where the workers were trapped. Efforts were also underway to ensure that the loco train reaches the final section and that the conveyor belt was operational.
Telangana Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, who is overseeing the rescue operation, stated that high-grade shutters and specialised debris removal machinery were being deployed. International experts have been brought in to guide the overall strategy and maximize the chances of a successful rescue.

Dattatraya Ramdas Gade, 36, has half a dozen cases of theft, robbery and chain-snatching registered against him in Pune and adjoining Ahilyanagar district, news agency PTI quoted a Swargate police station official as saying.
According to the police, Gade was out on bail since 2019 in one of the offences. And in 2024, a theft case was lodged in Pune against Gade.

According to the woman's police complaint, she was waiting for a bus to Phaltan at around 5:45 am when a man approached her, addressing her as "didi" (sister), and informed her that her bus had arrived at a different platform.
The man took her to an empty &lsquo;Shiv Shahi&rsquo; AC bus parked elsewhere on the sprawling station premises.

The woman, employed in the private medical sector, reported to the police that she initially hesitated to board the bus due to the lack of interior lighting. However, the man reassured her it was the correct bus, and she entered. He followed her inside, committed the assault, and then escaped.
The accused also threatened the woman and asked her not to reveal the crime to anyone, the police said.
<h2 dir="ltr">Deputy CM Eknath Shinde reacts</h2>
Reacting strongly to the rape, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that no one will be spared and people who commit such crimes should be hanged.
Shinde, who is also the president of the Shiv Sena, said on Thursday, "The Pune accident is very unfortunate. Whoever the accused is, no matter which party he belongs to, he will not be spared. Such people should be hanged. The damaged bus in the depot should be auctioned soon."

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has intervened, and the US authorities are expediting the visa formalities to enable the family of the Indian student Neelam Shinde, to travel to the United States at the earliest, news agency ANI reported citing sources.
Thirty-five-year-old Neelam, who went to the US four years back to pursue studies, sustained critical injuries after being hit by a vehicle in California.
The incident occurred on February 14, following which she was admitted to a local hospital. Neelam has remained in a coma since.
The driver of the vehicle has reportedly been arrested.
Her parents sought help from the Indian government to obtain a US visa, allowing them to be by their child's side.
Neelam's father said that he was informed about the accident by his daughter's roommates on February 16, and since then the family has been trying to get a visa but have failed so far.
Neelam's uncle, Sanjay Kadam, told Indian news channel NDTV that the victim's roommates shared the information with the family, &ldquo;They told us that she has met with a huge accident."
&ldquo;She is in a coma right now, and we need to be there," the student&rsquo;s uncle said.

‘It wasn’t easy; I seek forgiveness from devotees', says PM Modi as Maha Kumbh 2025 concludes

Pune City Police, on Thursday (Feb 27), said that they have intensified their search for the accused in the Swargate bus depot rape case. Dattatray Ramdas, the accused, has been evading arrest since Tuesday (Feb 25).
The police have also announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh ($1,145.57 USD) for information leading to his capture.
Thirteen teams have been deployed to track down the suspect with eight teams from the Crime Branch and five teams from Swargate Police Station. To widen the dragnet, police teams have also been sent outside the district to intensify the search, said the police officials.
Smartana Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Zone II, Pune said, "We have declared a Rs one lakh cash award for the person who helps in nabbing the accused. We have sent the bus for forensic investigation. Our teams have been working day and night since the incident happened."
Patil further detailed the challenges in identifying the suspect, highlighting that he had worn a mask during the attack, making it difficult to recognise his face.
"The problem is that the accused had a mask on when the incident happened, and his face wasn't easily recognizable. But our team worked hard to recognize the accused, and we have other pieces of evidence against him," DCP Patil said.
She voiced her trust in the police team, saying they're on the verge of capturing the suspect, and confidently stated, "All that is left is to nab him."

<h2>Maharashtra's Transport Minister orders departmental inquiry&nbsp;</h2>
Maharashtra's Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik ordered a departmental inquiry against the Assistant Transport Superintendent and the Bus Depot Manager of the Swargate Bus Depot.
Sarnaik "has given instructions to suspend them if they are found at fault in the inquiry," according to the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC).
The incident occurred on Tuesday when the rape survivor, a 26-year-old working woman, was waiting for a bus to return home to Phaltan, approximately 100 km away. The accused allegedly approached her, falsely claiming that the bus to her destination was parked elsewhere. &nbsp;
He then led her to a parked MSRTC Shivsahi bus within the depot, where he followed her in and allegedly committed the crime.
<h2>Political parties condemn incident</h2>
Political parties staged a protest to condemn the incident on Wednesday.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Vasant More and his supporters ransacked the MSRTC office at Swargate, protesting the incident.&nbsp;
Union Minister and Pune MP Murlidhar Mohol strongly condemned the incident, emphasising that such incidents will not be tolerated.&nbsp;
&ldquo;I have spoken to the police commissioner and sought the immediate arrest of the culprit. We will extend full support to police to maintain law and order in the city,&rdquo; he said.
NCP (SP) MP and party executive president Supriya Sule noted that the incident occurred close to a police station in a busy area, which she said shows that there was no fear of the police in the city.
&ldquo;It raises concerns over the safety of women in the state. There is a serious crime taking place in the city every day and the Home department has failed to curb crime. It shows the pathetic state of law and order. The culprit should be given stringent punishment and the case should be tried in a fast-track court,&rdquo; she said.
