'Operation Abhyas': A look into India's civil defence drills nationwide amid India-Pakistan tension

Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri briefed 13 foreign envoys in New Delhi on Wednesday (May 7) following Operation Sindoor in retaliation of deadly Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. The operation targeted terrorist camps in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan across nine locations.

Despite a fortnight having passed since the attacks, there has been no demonstrable step from Pakistan to take action against the terror infrastructure in their territory or territory under its control," he added.

Jaishankar&rsquo;s conversation with Japanese Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi lasted for about 15 minutes. The Indian EAM appreciated Japan&rsquo;s condemnation of the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians.
&ldquo;Iwaya extended his sincere condolences to the victims of the terrorist attack in Kashmir and expressed his deepest sympathy to those who were injured in the attack,&rdquo; the Japanese Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"It has now decided to scale up its efforts even more intensely to ensure that no useful information or evidence is missed out in its investigation into the horrendous crime against humanity," the NIA said in a statement.
The NIA has urged all such people to call the agency at 96-54-958-816 and/or 011- 24368800 and share the information. A senior NIA official will then connect with the caller and arrange for the relevant information/photos/videos etc to be shared with the agency, the statement said.
Several photographs and videos are found to be in circulation on various social media platforms after the terrorist attack, at Baisaran in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, which killed 26 tourists and left several injured on April 22, 2025.
NIA teams have been camping in Pahalgam to examine the attack site for evidence and have also been questioning the witnesses of the horrendous crime, the statement added.

India conducted a major nation-wide emergency mock drill &ndash; Operation Abhyaas- to enhance the emergency preparedness of civilians on Wednesday (May 7). Last night, the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor in response to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.
The mock drills were announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs amid the rising tensions between India and Pakistan. During these exercises, people are likely to hear sirens and experience blackouts alongside the training. As per the MHA&rsquo;s plan, key steps will include:

<li>Training of civilians, students, etc, on the civil defence aspects to protect themselves in the event of a hostile attack.</li>
