Their talks came just days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin, where Modi underlined that peace efforts must not be delayed and that the world has a collective duty to end the bloodshed.&nbsp;Before Modi’s meeting with Putin, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had spoken to the Indian leader by phone. Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal said on Thursday that India continues to have good relations with the United States, and any issues will be resolved over time. Replying to a question about the status of trade talks with the US, Goyal said, “Well, I don’t think there’s any need to panic. We should allow the negotiations to happen. We continue to have very good relations with the United States, and I’m sure that we’ll be able to resolve some of these issues and come to an equitable, fair, and balanced agreement.”There is never a timeline in negotiation, and one needs to do it patiently, as it is for the long term, he added.&nbsp;Goyal criticised the opposition for terming the next-generation GST reforms as ‘1.5 reforms’ and saying it’s ‘better late than never’ and blamed it on its ignorance. “I think it only demonstrates their ignorance that they have not understood the step-by-step systematic way in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made this entire GST over the last eight years a success story, which is watched by the whole world.”He added that more than 30 taxes, duties, and levies have been abolished and combined into one tax, and PM Modi has reduced the rate consistently, helping the common man whenever required.&nbsp;<h2>‘Industries have committed to pass on entire benefit to common man’</h2>&nbsp;Goyal further said that the implementation and execution of the GST reforms will be smooth and the benefits will be passed on to the people. “We have received assurance from all sectors of industry, different levels, big and small, have committed that we will pass on the entire benefit to the common man. As per estimates, America's Coke and Pepsi brands and their offerings dominate the lucrative Indian soft-drink market.&nbsp;In India, there are 10 sub-brands under the PepsiCo identity, which include Aquafina, 7UP, Mountain Dew, Mirinda, Slice, and Tropicana, among others. Under the Coca-Cola identity, there are nearly a dozen brands, including Sprite, Thums Up, Limca, Fanta, Maaza, Kinley, and Minute Maid. Typically, most of these offerings are stocked in the respective company-provided refrigerators, which are prominently placed in eateries and restaurants.&nbsp;Industry estimates say that India's non-alcoholic beverage market(soft drinks and mineral water) was valued at over Rs. 67,000cr ($7.6bn) in 2019, and that it is expected to get to Rs 150,000cr by 2030.&nbsp;&nbsp;"The idea to boycott American-branded soft drinks and mineral water, in response to Trump's 50% tariffs against Indian products, has received widespread traction in our business fraternity. In fact, it was accepted unanimously during our discussions with members of the association," Association President M. Venkadasubbu confirmed to WION.&nbsp;&nbsp;He added that the consent for the same had been obtained from the hoteliers, and this boycott would come into effect in about two weeks. Queried on how the hoteliers would fill the void left by these popular options, he said that there are plenty of Indian offerings in the soft drinks market. He said that the Trump tariffs have severely affected Tiruppur, where 90% of the functioning units are of the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise(MSME) category. He emphasised that&nbsp;There are 3,000 export units functioning in Tiruppur and about 10,000 support units, which employ a total of almost 10lakh people directly or indirectly.&nbsp;&nbsp;"Our textile export competitors, Cambodia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka have been imposed a 20% tariff, so Indian products with 50% tariffs become very expensive. It is not viable for exporters and importers to absorb these additional costs. If this tariff situation continues, there is a chance of brands and clients shifting sourcing to other competing nations. We have requested the Indian Government for relief package, emergency credit, like during the COVID-19 times. We are confident that the Indian government will negotiate a fair deal for Exporters here," he told WION.Similarly, Indian leather exports to the US are tariffed at 50%, while competing nations' leather exports to the US are tariffed at 20%. The authorities as a pre-emptive and precautionary measure advised the residents to evacuate the areas including Lasjan, Soiteng, Nowgam, Vyethpora, Golpora, Padshahi Bagh, Mehjoor Nagar. Announcements through local committees, Masjids, local revenue and police authorities in these areas were made. &nbsp;&nbsp;Many areas in Budgam, Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam and Anantnag have been inundated. There have been huge losses for the horticulture and agriculture industry as apple orchards have come under the floods as well as the rice fields. &nbsp;"We had anticipated this situation and took necessary precautions. Although we faced challenges, our early response has helped minimise the impact. The water levels at key locations such as Sangam and Ram Munshi Bagh are receding, offering a glimmer of hope amid the crisis. He was granted six weeks’ parole in July 2018 while he was lodged in Hisar Central Jail. Then, after, he never turned himself in and managed to escape to Bangkok from Kolkata on July 7, 2019, on a fake passport along with Rs 1.1 crore in cash.&nbsp;“Badli fraudulently acquired an Indian passport (no. T3218793) in the name of Sonu Kumar, son of Ranvir Singh, resident of H. No. 898, Sector-18, Sarhol village, Gurgaon,” IGP (STF) Satheesh Balan said on Wednesday, TOI reported.&nbsp;Later, the investigators disclosed that there was such a person existing as Sonu Kumar and the Gurgaon address on the passport was also found to be fake. Officials added that after reaching Bangkok, Badli went to Mauritius and Indonesia, then finally settled in Siem Reap by the name ‘Sonu Kumar’. Shockingly, while Badli was in a live-in relationship, he became a father to three children.&nbsp;“He stayed away from criminal activities there and opened adisco, which he operated with his partner’s help. The woman was unaware of his criminal past and original identity till he was detained,” TOI quoted IGP as saying. The states were also worried about revenue loss, but the centre assured that the compensation through luxury and sin items like cigarettes and tobacco products as well as luxury cars, private jets, yachts, will balance the revenue shortfall.
