Wrestler Babita Phogat on Monday joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of Union Minister Kiren Rijiju at party headquarters in Delhi.
Along with Babita, her father Mahavir Phogat, a Dronacharya Awardee, too joined the BJP. He was chief of the Jannayak Janata Party's sports cell, which was floated by former Hisar MP Dushyant Chautala.
Ace wrestler Babita Phogat won Silver medal at 21st edition of the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast. It was Phogat's third Commonwealth Games medal after winning silver and gold in Delhi (51kg) and Glasgow (55kg), respectively.
Sisters Babita, Geeta and their father Mahavir Phogat inspired critically acclaimed movie 'Dangal' starring Aamir Khan.
Phogats said that they are impressed with the policies and programmes of Narendra Modi-led BJP government and also praised Manohar Lal Khattar-led government in Haryana.
Babita recently came out in support of the Haryana chief minister over his remark on Kashmiri women, saying there was nothing offensive in what he said. "Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has not made any such statement that is offensive to our sisters and daughters. I urge the media to not misinterpret his statement," she tweeted.
