A woman in the western Indian state of Maharashtra lost her life on Monday (Jun 17) after her car fell into a 300-feet deep gorge as her friend was shooting a reel for social media.
The incident took place near the Dutt Dham Temple hill and a related video has now gone viral on the internet.
The 23-year-old girl has been identified as Shweta Survase from Chhatarapati Sambhaji Nagar.
The girl mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake as she drove her Toyota Etios car in reverse near the gorge.
The car was about 50 metres from the edge of the cliff.
But as the girl kept reversing, the car sped up. Her friend told her to slow down and tried to stop her, but the car went over the cliff.
The woman was not an experienced driver and was trying her hand behind the wheel just for the sake of shooting the reel, as per reports.
A Khutabad police station official was quoted by news agency PTI as saying, "Survase tried her hand at driving while her friend Shivraj Mule was shooting a video. She accidentally pressed the accelerator while the car was in reverse gear. The vehicle slid back, broke a crash barrier, and plunged into the valley. It took an hour for rescuers to reach her and the vehicle. She was declared dead on arrival at a nearby hospital."
