Three militants killed in overnight encounter in Jammu and Kashmir

In an overnight encounter, three militants were killed and three security forces personnel were injured on Wednesdaybetween the ultras and the forces in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

A search operation was initiated by security forces, based on an input about the presence of militants in Melhora area of south Kashmir's district. The team consisted ofPolice and army's 55 RR.

As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot when the hiding terrorists fired upon them, triggering an encounter, according to the police.

A spokesperson said that during the search mission, the militants fired upon the search party of the forces, who retaliated, leading to an encounter and the death of three militants. The identification and all legal formalities are being carried out for the three militants.

The injured personnel were rushed to the hospital where they are being taken care of by experts.

Incriminating material, including arms and ammunition, were recovered from the site of the encounter.
Police have registered a case and initiated a probe into the matter, officials informed media.
