Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday (Sep 3), challenged the Calcutta High Court order transferring the corruption case against him to the CBI.
The Calcutta High Court on August 23, ordered the transfer of the probe into the alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Hospital from a state-constituted Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the CBI.
The bureau on Tuesday, arrested Ghosh along with his additional security guard Afsar Ali, and two others, Biplab Singha and Suman Hazra, in connection with alleged financial irregularities at the hospital.

The RG Kar Medical Hospital has been facing intense scrutiny after a trainee female doctor was raped and murdered on its premises last month.
Sandip Ghosh's arrest
Ghosh was arrested after nearly 150 hours of intense interrogation. He has been sent to eight-day police custody.
The next hearing of the case will be on September 10.
The three others have applied for bail, whereas, Ghosh has reportedly opted against seeking bail.
The West Bengal Health Department responded to the investigation and issued a suspension order for Ghosh on Tuesday.
Ghosh was also barred from the West Bengal Medical Council and its associated panels, including the ethics committee.
Ghosh slapped outside court
The accused Sandip Ghosh was presented before the Alipore court in Kolkata. The courtroom scene quickly descended into chaos as he entered. When Ghosh was leaving the court, the crowd got hostile and attacked him.
As the situation intensified, one person also got close enough to slap the accused.
