India's Jaishankar holds talks with Ukrainian foreign minister, discusses war situation

An open and wide-ranging bilateral discussion between India and Ukraine was held on Friday (March 29), with a focus on the ongoing conflict and its wider ramifications between Russia and Ukraine.
S. Jaishankar, the Indian Minister of External Affairs, and Dmytro Kuleba, the Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs, had detailed conversations during their meet up.
Dmytro Kuleba, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine was in India for two days as part of efforts to find a diplomatic conclusion to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which has lasted for more than two years.
Dmytro Kuleba said that although India and Ukraine have a history of being traditional friends, there is still a great deal of room for both countries to continue contributing to international development and security architecture.
"We have interacted at many levels in the past few months, and I'm happy to report that some of our bilateral mechanisms have also met, which has given our relationship some momentum. Following this conversation today, we're looking forward to the intergovernmental commission meeting as well," he stated, as reported byPTI news agency.

EAM Jaishankar said, "Your visit gives us an opportunity to understand the situation in your own region and I look forward to hearing your perspective on that. Our teams have prepared a very substantial agenda for discussions.”
After the meeting with Dmytro Kuleba, EAM Jaishankar in a post on X said, “Our discussions focused on the ongoing conflict and its wider ramifications, exchanged views on various initiatives in that context. Spoke as well on global and regional issues of interest to both of us.”
Addressing the media on Thursday (March 29), Kuleba stated that he hoped to talk about the peace formula for Ukraine while in New Delhi and to persuade India to take a more active role in assisting in the cessation of Russia's conflict in Ukraine.
"India has the potential to be a key player in uniting more countries from the Global South," Kuleba stated.
Kuleba's visit occurs one week after Russian President Vladmir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy were addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During their conversations, Modi emphasised the need of communication and diplomacy in putting an end to the conflict and pledged to support efforts towards peace.
