South India's famous actor turned politician, Rajinikanth on Wednesday visited a general hospital in Thoothukkudhi as a "goodwill gesture" to meet people who got injured during the anti-sterlite protests.
After meeting the injured in a hospital, Rajinikanth announced two lakh rupees each for the kin of victims who died in the protest.
He also criticised the Tamil Nadu government over the incident as ANI quoted him saying that "I don't want to comment more on it, but the Government needs to be careful as the people are watching."
He added, "it was a huge mistake and a big lesson. I announce Rs 2 lakhs each for the kin of victims who died in the protest", ANI reported.

The locals were protesting for the closure of the factory for 99 days when the protests took a violent turn on May 22, the 100th day of their stir.
