The Mumbai Police on Wednesday (May 15) arrested the owner of the firm that had installed the billboard that collapsed in Ghatkopar, killing 16 and injuring 74 others in the west Indian city.
Bhavesh Bhinde, director of Ego Media Pvt Ltd, was arrested by the Crime Branch from Rajasthan's Udaipur. News agency ANI reported he wasbeing broughtto Mumbai for further action.
The 120x120-foot advertising hoarding in Pant Nagar in Mumbai's Ghatkopar East had collapsed on May 13 after unseasonal rain and gusty winds.
The billboard fell on a busy petrol station.It was installedon a 10-year lease and defied the permissible norms of 40x40 feet.
Police earlier on Monday had registered cases against the advertising company and the owner under sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
More than10teams of Gujarat police and Mumbai police were formedto trace Bhinde.
According to media reports, it's not the first that Bhinde has run afoul of the law.
In January, hewas bookedin a rape and molestation case. He managed to get an anticipatorybailand escaped the arrest by the Mulund police.The second case was registeredin the same police station in 2016.

Bhindealso tried his luck in politics and stood in the assembly election as an independent candidate from Mumbai's Mulund constituency in 2009.
Before 2009 alone, Bhinde also had 21 cases registered against him under the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act, 1888.
