Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (May 13) held a grand roadshow in the holy city of Varanasi, his home constituency, in Uttar Pradesh. PM Modi is seeking a third consecutive term from the seat, and will file his nomination on Tuesday (May 14). Before embarking on the six-kilometre roadshow, the PM paid homage at the statue of educationist and social reformer Madan Mohan Malviya at the Malviya Chauraha in the Lanka area. The chief minister of Uttar Pradesh state, Yogi Adityanath, also accompanied him.
According to media reports, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader is also expected to take a dip in the holy Ganga river.

As PM boarded his vehicle, a large group of saffron-clad women marched ahead of his convoy.
The PM's roadshow concluded at the Kashi Vishwanath Dham after passing through Sant Ravidas Gate, Assi, Shivala, Sonarpura, Jangambadi and Godowlia. The PM is expected to stay in Varanasi at the BLW guesthouse.

The roadshow offered a glimpse into the rich diversity of the vast nation as people from different communities—Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Maheshwari, Marwari, Tamil, and Punjabi— joined it.
Varanasi is up for elections on June 1, when the seventh and final phase of the elections will be held in the country.
