L K Advani, a prominent veteran Indian politician, was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday (August 6). While it is not clear for what reasons he had to be hospitalised, as per reports, the 96-year-old BJP senior leader is in a stable condition.

The former deputy prime minister has been admitted to the Apollo hospital, reported PTI news agency.

Cause of medical concern?

The 96-year-old political leader is one of the last remaining leaders born in undivided India. Given his advanced age, he naturally faces some health issues.

Previously, in the first week of July, L K Advani was taken to the hospital, where he was kept under observation for a couple of days. As per PTI, he was admitted under the care of a senior consultant in the neurology department.

Before that, he spent a night at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

L K Advani: A look at his political career

Born in Karachi (present-day Pakistan) on November 8, 1927, Advani joined the RSS as a Swayamsevak in 1942. He served as the BJP National President from 1986 to 1990, then from 1993 to 1998, and from 2004 to 2005. Advani had served as the President of the party for the longest period since its inception in 1980.

With a parliamentary career spanning close to thirty years, LK Advani held the positions of Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee's cabinet (1999-2004). 

He served as Deputy Prime Minister in the NDA government led by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee from 2002 to 2004. Last year, in March, he was conferred Bharat Ratna by Indian President Droupadi Murmu.
