Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Babagund area of Kupwara on Friday following information about the presence of militants there

Two terrorists were killed during an overnight encounter at Babagund village in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Friday.

Security forces had laid a cordon around the village after receiving inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area. After searches, forces were able to track the terrorists in hiding.

Early on Friday, firing in the area stopped and bodies of two terrorists were recovered from the spot.

Despite ceasefire violations on the Line of Control, forces have conducted several operations in the valley after Pulwama attack which killed over 40 CRPF jawans.

In wake of the Pulwama attack, the central government has declared Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir as an ‘unlawful association’. Hundreds of its activists have already been arrested by the security forces in the valley.

Meanwhile, Pakistan violated ceasefire in Kamalkote area of Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday. Civilian identified as Riyaz Ahmad was injured in the shelling carried out by Pakistan.
