A 27-year-old woman, who worked at a bank, died by suicide in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, allegedly due to intense bullying, body-shaming and mental torture at her workplace for around six months.

The woman, identified as Shivani Tyagi, died by suicide at her home last Friday. Local reports have mentioned that she was a relationship manager at a Noida-based branch of Axis Bank. 

She reportedly consumed poison and later died at GTB Hospital in Delhi. A case against the accused under the abetment to suicide law was filed by her brother.

A First Information Report (FIR) of abetment to suicide was registered by the Ghaziabad police on Sunday against four employees of an Indian multinational bank in Noida.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ghaziabad, Gyananjay Singh, said, "It appears that she was being body-shamed, bullied and harassed at her workplace." 

The police said that they have recovered a suicide note from her room, which details her humiliation. In the note, she named five people and sought the death penalty for them.

While speaking to NDTV, her brother Gaurav Tyagi said that a woman colleague often commented on her. He told the media outlet that the woman, whose identity hasn't been revealed, would "pick on her dressing sense, her eating habits and her manner of speaking. Shivani was called names. People would often pick on her". 

Gaurav also claimed that once the woman attacked his sister. "She (Shivani) tried resigning many times, but each time the company would find an excuse to reject it," the brother claimed.
