A nine-year-old school student in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh was killed as part of a black-magic ritual to bring success to the school, according to media reports on Friday (Sept 27).

The student was killed at his school hostel earlier this week. Citing the police, a report by NDTV said that five people, including the director of the school, were arrested in connection with the case.

Citing police sources, the NDTV report said that the accused wanted to kill the boy near a tubewell outside the school. However, as they were taking him out of the hostel, the nine-year-old began to scream.

This forced the accused to strangle the student to death.

During the investigation, items related to black magic were found near the school. The report also said that the accused earlier tried to sacrifice another nine-year-old student on September 6 but had failed.

In a complaint filed by the victim's father, he received a call from the school administration informing him that his son was sick. When the father reached the school, the school director took the child to a hospital in his car.

The nine-year-old's body was recovered from the car. 

Congress reacts to incident

Speaking to the news agency ANI, Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai said, "There are incidents of rape with minor girls, sacrifices being offered, murders and fake encounters - there is jungle raj in the state."

This is a cruel incident which cannot be condemned enough. What will they do in J&K when they cannot even handle Uttar Pradesh?" Rai added.
