Karan Johar announced the star cast of his father's dream project that will reportedly have Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit.
Karan Johar was finallyable to pull off what many others have not been able to, in so many years -- bringing Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit together on-screen.
Karan Johar announced the star cast of Abhishek Varman’s next film titled "Kalank", that was incidentally his father, Yash Johar’s dream project. Set in the 1940s, the film has to have an old-world charm and will be an epic drama. The film was said to have been named "Shiddat"initially and had Sridevi but due to her untimely death, Madhuri was asked to step in. Karan later clarified that the name is not "Shiddat"and that the final cast would be announced soon.
Describing the process of working on the film for his father as “an emotional journey”, Karan told a leading daily, “‘Kalank’ has been an emotional journey for me. A germ of an idea that I had nearly 15 years ago a film that was in pre-production stage helmed by my father. I am now proud to pass it on to the capable and visionary hands of our director, Abhishek. The film is a beautifully structured story by Shibani Bathija, and has an exceptionally fluid narrative and screenplay by Abhishek.”
The film will be jointly produced by Sajid Nadiadwala who said, “April 18, 2014, was when ‘2 States’ had released, and now on April 18, 2018, ‘Kalank’ begins its journey. This multi-starrer has a story that will cross all borders and will be historic in the true sense of the word. I am genuinely happy to be back with the team, as this film is special to all of us.”

A source from the production unit was quoted: “When Yash Johar was toying with the idea of making this epic drama, he had done a lot of research. He had even visited Lahore to understand how the situation could have been in the ‘40s, but he couldn’t start the project.
