ED issues notice summoning Chidambaram for questioning: Sources

The ED has summoned the former finance minister for questioning in connection with the Aircel-Maxis case on Tuesday

The Enforcement Directorate has issued a notice to former finance minister P Chidambaram asking him to appear for questioning tomorrow in the Aircel-Maxis case, ANI reported sources as saying.

The authorities began looking at the Aircel-Maxis deal after Aircel owner C Sivasankaran lodged a complaint with the Central Bureau of Investigation alleging he was pressurised to sell his stake to Maxis.

The CBI and the ED are both investigating the case.

In February this year, the CBI arrested Chidambaram's son Karti in connection with the case.

In September 2017, the Enforcement Directorate attached assets belonging to Karti worth Rs 1.16 crore.

In December, the ED searched the homes and offices of Karti's close relatives.

And in January this year, the ED searched Karti's Delhi and Chennai properties.
