Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal lost the re-election bid from the New Delhi seat by 4089 votes to Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Parvesh Verma.

Kejriwal garnered 25999 votes whereas Verma got 30088, while Congress' Sandeep Dikshit finished a distant third with 4,600 votes. 

Former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma's son, Verma is being hailed as a 'giant slayer' and is considered as the top contender for the Delhi Chief Minister post. 

Speaking to the media, he credited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for BJP's historic performance in the Delhi polls.

"This government which is going to be formed in Delhi will bring PM Modi's vision to Delhi. I give credit for this victory to PM Modi. I thank the people of Delhi. This is the victory of PM Modi and the people of Delhi," he said.

Verma's daughter Sanidhi, while talking to the media said, "We all are very happy. I thank the people of New Delhi for giving us a chance to serve them for the next five years. We are very happy about becoming the MLA.. We have always accepted the posts given to him by the party, this time too we will accept it happily."

His wife Swati Singh Verma, speaking about BJP's Delhi victory, said that the results show people's trust in the party.

Sisodia concedes defeat from Jangpura seat

Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia conceded his defeat from Jangpura seat in Delhi Assembly polls on Saturday (Feb 8) to Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Tarvinder Singh Marwah.

Sisodia, while speaking to the media said that his party workers had fought well in the electoral contest and worked extremely hard.

He then expressed hope that the BJP candidate will work for the constituency.

"Party workers fought well; we all did hard work. People have supported us as well. But, I lost by 600 votes. I congratulate the candidate who won. I hope he will work for the constituency," he said.
