Farooq Takla, an aide of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, was produced before Special TADA court in Mumbai earlier today. Takla was produced before the court for further remand.

Takla has been sent to police custody until 28th March by special TADA court. According to sources, the Court, in its order, observed the need for further custody to go to the depths of the case. The court also described the crime of "serious nature".

The Central Bureau of Investigation sought a 14-day extension of Takla's custody to scrutinize his statements given during investigations.

The special court was told by the CBI that Takla did not co-operate during the remand proceedings and therefore at least 24 days police custody is required to facilitate further investigation.

Takla was arrested in Delhi by the CBI earlier this month on numerous charges, most of them linking his alleged involvement to the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.
