Chandrababu Naidu meets union ministers
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and several other Union ministers on Thursday (July 4). There he requested financial assistance for various state projects and "comprehensive financial support" for his state's capital, Amaravati.
Constructive discussions
Taking to X, Naidu described his discussions with PM Modi on key development issues as "constructive."
He expressed optimism about the state's future, and said, "I am confident that under his (Modi) leadership, our state will re-emerge as a powerhouse among states."
During the meetings, Naidu, whose Telugu Desam Party (TDP) with 16 Lok Sabha MPs is a crucial ally in the BJP-led NDA government in Centre, highlighted the "debt crisis" affecting Andhra Pradesh.

He pushed for increased financial aid to mitigate this issue.

Naidu also had talks with Union Commerce and Industries Minister Piyush Goyal, Roads Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and the Chairman of the 16th Finance Commission Arvind Panagariya.
He sought support for commissioning the Polavaram National Irrigation project and advocated for "special incentives" for industrial development.
Moreover, Naidu requested "additional allocations" under the scheme for special assistance to states for capital investment in critical sectors such as roads, bridges, irrigation, and drinking water projects. He also called for support for the backward regions of Andhra Pradesh, similar to the Bundelkhand package.
Interestingly, according to anIndian Express report citing sources, the Special Category Status (SCS) for Andhra Pradesh did not feature in Naidu's requests.
During his meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah, he asked for INR 385 crore for land costs to establish a Greyhounds (anti-Maoist force) training centre, INR 27.54 crore for operational costs and an increase in IPS officers from 79 to 117.
From Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, Naidusought approval for several road projects, including a new expressway connecting Hyderabad and Amaravati.
Naidu also asked Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal for grants for essential external infrastructure, including industrial water, power, rail, and road connectivity.
The Andhra CM requested the development of an integrated aqua park and a central share of pending agriculture assistance under various schemes from Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
He also sought the expedited approval process for a power line from Kurnool to Vizag and the development of Vizag-Kakinada as a green hydrogen manufacturing hub from Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
Finally, he sought the establishment of a BPCL refinery from Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.
