Amit Shah assumes office as India's home minister for second consecutive term

Amit Shah on Tuesday (June 11) assumed charge as India'shome minister and minister of cooperation in New Delhi.

Shah, who has been holding the portfolio of home minister since2019, took charge for his second consecutive term.

He was welcomed by Ministers of State (Home), Nityanand Rai and Bandi Sanjay Kumar along with Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla upon his arrival at the ministry's office in North Block.

Earlier, he shared a post on his official X account, thanking Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for once again trusting him with the role and responsibilities.

"Gratitude to PM Shri @narendramodiJi for reposing trust and reassigning me the roles of Minister of Home Affairs and Minister of Cooperation," Shah said in a post on 'X'.

Speaking about his role in the Home Ministry, Shah said, "In Modi 3.0, the MHA will continue to accelerate and strengthen security initiatives and introduce new approaches to realise PM Modi's vision of a secure Bharat."

On empowering farmers and villages through the Ministry of Cooperation, Shah said, "Under the astute leadership of Modi Ji, the Ministry of Cooperation will remain committed to empowering farmers and villages with the vision of 'Sahakaar Se Samriddhi'."

Shah, who is PM Modi's trusted confidante, has secured victory in Gujarat's Gandhinagar by a huge margin of 744,716 votes in Lok Sabha elections 2024.

Shah polled 10,10,972 votes defeating Congress' Sonal Patel who got 2,66,256.

PM Modi assumes office for third term

PM Modi assumed office for his consecutive third term in the South Block office in the national capital on Monday (June 10).

After assuming office, the Indian prime minister signed his first file authorising the release of the 17th instalment of PM Kisan Nidhi which will benefit 9.3 crore farmers and distribute nearly Rs 20,000 crores.

After signing the file, PM Modi said, “Ours is a Government fully committed to Kisan Kalyan. It is therefore fitting that the first file signed on taking charge is related to farmer welfare. We want to keep working even more for the farmers and the agriculture sector in the times to come.”

He took oath as the prime minister along with 72 Council of Ministers in a grand swearing-in ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday (June 9).
