1,396 new coronavirus cases in last 24 hrs; 20,835 people under active medical supervision: Health ministry

India's health ministry said today that 85 districts in the country have not reported any new coronavirus cases in the last 14 days.

"16 districts in the country which earlier had cases have not reported any fresh cases since last 28 days," health ministry official Lav Agarwal said, adding, "the three new districts which got added to this list are -Gondia in Maharashtra, Devangere in Karnataka and Lakhi Sarai in Bihar."

The health ministry said that there were 1,396 new coronavirus cases in last 24 hrs with the total number of cases jumping to 27,892. The health ministry said that 20,835 people are under active medical supervision with 381 patients cured since Sunday.

According to the health ministry, the total numberof cured people has now gone up to 6,184 with the recovery rate being 22.17 per cent.

"We should avoid spreading misinformation and panic. No community or area should be labelled for coronavirus spread," health ministry official Lav Aggarwal said.

"In particular, healthcare and sanitary workers or police should not be targeted as they are there to help," the official added.

Meanwhile, on the question of rapid antibody test kits procurement, the government said that ICMR hasn't made any payment over the supplies since the due process was followed, that is not going for procurement with 100 per cent advance amount, therefore the government hasn't lost any money on the transaction.

The information comes amid reports of fault test kits being given by China which was refused by several state governments who decided not to distribute it, a move which was backed by the Centre.
