Nunez entered the stand and threw punches at some fans before being joined by his two teammates as well. The security officials had to intervene to separate the two sides and calm things down. Reportedly, it all happened as the Colombian fans were abusing the families of the players.

Uruguay captainGimenez opined on the whole incident after the match. He said, "It’s a total disaster. There wasn’t a single police officer. They showed up half an hour later. A disaster. And we were there, standing up for ourselves, for our loved ones."

He added, "Our families are suffering because of some people who have a few drinks and don’t know how to drink, who act like children. Hopefully, they’ll take more precautions for the next game so this doesn’t happen again because this is a disaster."

Talking about the second semifinal, Uruguay went down to Colombia who rode on Jefferson Lerma's strike to set up a final clashwith defending champions Argentina, on Monday (Jul15).
