Newly unveiled Real Madrid player Kylian Mbappe has revealed he was 'violently' told by Paris Saint-Germain that he wouldn't play for the club last season, owing to the striker not extending his stay in the French capital by signing a new contract.

Speaking ahead of France's friendly match against Luxembourg on Wednesday (Jun 5), Mbappe revealed how toxic the PSG dressing room had become for him.

"They [the club] made me understand that I wouldn't play, they told me to my face, they told me violently," said Mbappe.

The 25-year-old added that if it wasn't for PSG coach Luis Enrique and sporting director Luis Campos, he wouldn't have been 'saved'.

"Luis Enrique and Luis Campos saved me, I wouldn't have set foot on the pitch again without them. Just the fact I was playing was a great source of pride, but it's certain that next year I won't be satisfied with a year like that," said Mbappe.

The forward said although he wasn't 'unhappy' at the Parisian club, there were certain people that made him feel that way.

"At PSG I wasn't unhappy, that would be biting the hand that feeds you, and spitting in the face of all the people who defended me, but things and people made me unhappy," he added.

Despite the off-field drama, Mbappe finished the season as the highest scoring player in Ligue 1 for the sixth consecutive time while helping PSG win the league trophy. He was also instrumental in the club reaching the semifinal of the UEFA Champions League.

Mbappe joins Madrid

After a dramatic transfer saga that spanned ages, Real Madrid on Monday (Jun 3) announced the signing of Mbappe on a free transfer from PSG. The news of football's 'worst-kept secret' came a couple of days after Madrid won their record-extending 15th UCL title.

After the announcement, the Frenchman took to social media and said the move was "a dream come true" for him.

"So happy and proud to join the club of my dream Real Madrid. Nobody can understand how excited I am right now. Can't wait to see you, Madridistas, and thanks for your unbelievable support," Mbappe said.

The star forward is expected to receive $38 million a season in addition to the hefty 'undisclosed' signing bonus, according to reports in Spain.

Mbappe will be joining a stacked Madrid forward line that currently is being led by Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo. With the likes of Brahim Diaz, Arda Guler and Joselu already in place and Endrick yet to come from Palmeiras, Madrid could be set to dominate world football for years to come.

Madrid have already made it clear that Mbappe is their crown jewel as the board rejected France Under 21 manager Thierry Henry's request to release the player for the Paris Olympics.
