FA Cup Final: Stefan Ortega's howler gifts Manchester United opening goal at Wembley - WATCH
It was a chaotic start in the FA Cup final for Premier League champions Manchester City after they gifted the opening goal to arch-rivals Manchester United at Wembley Stadium. Playing in a back-to-back all-Manchester affair, Man City’s German goalkeeper Stefan Ortega was at fault for the opening goal in the 30th minute as United forward Alejandro Garnacho pounced to open the scoring. The shocking lead left all Man City fans in disarray while United enjoyed the moment.
Ortega goes hero to zero
Having been in the headlines for the title-winning save against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League two weeks ago, Ortega was atthe receiving end of criticism. After a nervous start for Man City, United caught their backline napping with a pass that caused confusion at the half-hour mark. A long ball from United wasmisreadby defender Joško Gvardiol as he opted to backpass the ball to goalkeeper Ortega.
However, the goalie was in no man’s land to collect the Gvardiol pass as he too had approached the ball. This left Manchester United attacker Garnacho free on goal from the 12-yard spot andhe slotted home an easy goal. The opening goal came courtesy of United’s good pressing tactic which has not been their ‘A-game’ in the Premier League season.

A cross ball from the deep was not dealt by the defence before it landed swiftly for captain Bruno Fernandes. The United skipper with a clever pass helped the ball in Kobbie Mainoo’s path who scored the second goal of the match for United.
At the time of writing, United were 2-0 up at half time and needed to keep City shut for the rest of the match to win their 13th FA Cup title.
