'Respect the laws that are in force': Rishi Kapoor's family appeal to fans to not gather in large numbers amid lockdown

Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor died on Thursday morning after a prolonged battle with cancer. The actor was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday after he complained of breathing problems.
Post his death, the actor's family issued a statement stating that he remained jovial throughout his treatment that had started nearly two years back.
The family for the first time revealed that the actor was suffering from leukemia.
Usually, when a celebrity passes away in Mumbai, fans throng the streets to catch the glimpse of the star for one last time. But things may be different now as the country is observing lockdown due to coronavirus pandemic.
Appealing to the fans to abide by the give rules, the family urged everyone to stay home and not gather in large numbers on streets.
Here is the full statement issued by the Kapoor family.
"Our dear Rishi Kapoor passed away peacefully at 8:45am IST in hospital today after a two-year battle with leukemia. The doctors and medical staff at the hospital said he kept them entertained to the last.
He remained jovial and determined to live to the fullest right through two years of treatment across two continents. Family, friends, food and films remained his focus and everyone who met him during this time was amazed at how he did not let his illness get the better of him.
He was grateful for the love of his fans that poured in from the world over. In his passing, they would all understand that he would like to be remembered with a smile and not with tears.
