Indian media tycoon Ramoji Rao passed away on June 8, 2023. Ramoji was one of the prominent names in the Indian entertainment and media industry, known for his contributions as a film producer and media tycoon. As a mark of respect, all shoots in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on Sunday (June 9) have been halted.

Soon after Rao's death was announced, Telugu Film Producers Council (TFPC) and Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce (TFCC) announced that film industry wouldremain closedin the followingtwo states.

“Ramoji Rao's death will bring the Telugu film industry to a standstill in Andhra and Telangana states tomorrow,” wrote the TFPC account.

As per the Hindustan Times, many shootings were halted in Hyderabad on Saturday as well.

Ramoji's mortal remains have been shifted to his residence in Ramoji film industry.

Ramoji Rao's Death

Indian media boron Cherukuri Ramoji Rao, who founded the Ramoji Film City, passed away in Hyderabad, Telangana on Saturday (June 8). He was 87. Rao breathed his last at Star Hospital in Hyderabad, Telangana at 4:50am local time.

Ramoji was the head of Ramoji Group, under which he had different business ventures such as Eenadu, a Telugu-language daily newspaper, ETV TV channels, Ramoji film industry, and the production house Usha Kiran movie

Following the news of his death, several prominent personalities, A-listers, celebritiespaid tribute to the median tycoon.

Expressing her condolences, President Droupadi Murmu called him a “titan of the media and entertainment sector."

PM-designate Narendra Modi shared a photo with Ramoji on X andwrote, "The passing away of Shri Ramoji Rao Garu is extremely saddening. He was a visionary who revolutionized Indian media. His rich contributions have left an indelible mark on journalism and the world of films. Through his noteworthy efforts, he set new standards for innovation and excellence in the media and entertainment world."

Superstar Rajinikanth paid tribute to the late soul, ''I am deeply saddened on hearing the demise of my mentor and well wisher Shri Ramoji Rao Garu. The man who created history in Journalism, Cinema and a great kingmaker in Politics. He was my guide and inspiration in my life. May his soul rest in peace.@Ramoji_FilmCity."
