Story highlights

Rajkummar Rao is all set to play legendary cricketer Sourav Ganguly in a new biopic, which Vikramaditya Motwane is directing. On Wednesday, the actor and director revealed the title of the film.

Rajkummar Rao is all set to transform himself to play veteran former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly in a new biopic. The film was announced some time back, and on Wednesday, the team announced its title along with a poster. Titled as Dada-The Sourav Ganguly biopic, the film has gone on floors and will feature Rao in the lead.

Rajkummar took to Instagram on Wednesday evening, and shared that he has started shooting for it. “And it begins… The one and only #DADA” he wrote in the caption. The film is being produced by Luv Ranjan, and directed by Vikramaditya Motwane.

Rao’s post featured a photo of a clapboard with the film's title - Dada The Sourav Ganguly Story.

Vikramaditya Motwane also shared a picture of the ‘Sourav Ganguly Stand’ at Eden Gardens, Kolkata as he announced the film.

Rao, in an earlier interview with NDTV, had admitted to being "extremely nervous" about the role.

"I am nervous... It's a huge responsibility, but it's going to be a lot of fun," he had said.

Rajkummar Rao had to transform for the film

Dada- The Sourav Ganguly Story had made headlines recently as well, albeit for a different reason altogether.

Rao attended an event in February, which sparked concerns among fans. The actor appeared more bulky and sported a different hairstyle. Many fans speculated if he was fine as he had visibly put on extra kilos.

A day later, Rao had to issue a clarification and assure everyone that nothing was wrong with his health and revealed he was prepping for his next film, the Ganguly biopic. “For Nikam I had to gain around 9-10 kgs, and I was eating 2 pizzas and a lot of sweets and my fav Aloo Parathas, Biryani, and to not use anything glam to look like the part. Hopefully, when you see the film, which will be released soon, you will be able to see all that hard work in the film. And now it’s the transition phase and time to lose these extra kgs and get ready to slip into Ganguly mode. Our very own Dada,” read a portion of his post on Instagram.
