Kangana Ranaut-starrer Emergency
Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, who recently took oath as an MP in the 18th Lok Sabha session, is all set to return to the silver screensafter her 2023 film Tejas, which turned out to be one of Hindi cinema's biggest box-office disaster within its first two days of release. Her next film Emergency, which is based on the 1975 Indian Emergency imposed by former prime minister Indira Gandhi, will hit theatres on September 6.
The actress confirmed the news via a social media post, which read, "The Beginning of the 50th Year of Independent India’s Darkest Chapter, Announcing #KanganaRanaut’s #Emergency In Cinemas on 6th September 2024. The Explosive Saga of The Most Controversial Episode of The History of Indian Democracy, #EmergencyOn6Sept in cinemas worldwide."

The film also stars Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhry, Milind Soman and Satish Kaushik in pivotal roles. The film was previously scheduled to release on June 14, however, it was postponed due to the Lok Sabha elections.
For those unaware, former Indian PM Indira Gandhi declared a state of emergency across the country in 1975, citing internal and external threats. The emergency ended after almost 21 months on March 21, 1977. During this time, several political opponents of Indira Gandhi were imprisoned and the press was censored.
Kangana, who isn't just a reel politician anymore,won the Lok Sabha seat from Mandi consistency on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket. After taking the oath on Monday, she challenged the Opposition INDIA bloc, stating, "Let's see what they bring to the table. Finally, we have a good Opposition. As PM Modi said, the entire nation hopes that the Opposition will be more responsible."
