Late actor Robin Williams has been trending for two days now. The Jumanji actor was in the news for having kept a pet monkey as internet users slammed the late actor for the same.
Debunking this news, his daughter Zelda Williams took to social media and said there was no truth in these photos. She wrote, “Dad didn’t own a pet monkey,” and added, “NO ONE should.”
The photo that has created a stir features Robin Williams with a monkey balanced on his shoulder. The monkey looks relaxed and is seen smiling for the camera. The photo was posted from an account titled Time Capsule Tales. The caption claimed the picture was taken a few days before Robin Williams died and had the words “his pet monkey” written on them.
The post has now gone viral. Before it was taken down, the post had nearly 9 million likes.
Meanwhile, Zelda Williams denied her father ever had a pet monkey. She clarified that the monkey is the animal that appeared in Night at the Museum film. The monkey now lives at an animal rescue centre. She slammed that account for spreading false information and wrote, “some probably AI written BS.”
In a separate post, Zelda also noted that August 11 was the tenth anniversary of her father’s death. “Since more completely false or badly researched posts are likely to go viral on Dad’s death anniversary, maybe just assume they’re all BS (they usually are),” she wrote. “Ignore the creepy robots trying to farm your clicks & do something nice for yourself instead. I sure as hell will.”
Robin Williams was ruled dead by suicide on August 11, 2014. According to his widow, at the time of his death, Robin Williams had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and had been experiencing depression, anxiety and increasing paranoia.
