As the latest installment in the apocalyptic franchise of Mad Max Saga saw its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 15, George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga got an almost 8-minute standing ovation.
The lead cast of the film Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth graced the red carpet before their film was showcased to a visibly excited audience. The film received an almost 8-minute standing ovation after the final frame played in the Cannes’ massive Palais.
In the film, Anya plays the titular character first essayed by Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road along with Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke.
In the origin story, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus (Hemsworth). But she then transfers over to Joe (Burke). In the end, her loyalties lie with no one as she forms a bond with a rogue, mysterious warrior in the middle of the Wasteland as they team to take a prized commodity, petroleum, into their own hands.
Speaking in an interview to Deadline, Anya Taylor-Joy said, “By nature, of how arduous the shooting schedule was, I was very often alone and (Furiosa’s) a character that’s very much in her head and she’s very, very quiet, so it felt everything around me that pushed that sense of isolation.”
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will start its release schedule from May 22. It will be available in theatres from May 24.
