Box office: R-rated Deadpool & Wolverine breaks record, earns $205 million

The Merc with the Mouth has arrived in the theatres with a new superhero on his side, Wolverine. Released on July 26, Deadpool & Wolverine opened worldwide with a record-shattering number and has brought much joy to the Marvel studios that have witnessed a grim period with back-to-back box office duds.
With a triumphant opening, the movie starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman has become the eighth biggest opening of all time among any film.
How Much Deadpool & Wolverine Has Earned So Far?
Directed by Shawn Levy, the third movie in the Deadpool franchise opened with $205 million at the domestic box office. As per THR, this is the biggest opening for an R-rated film.
On the international level, the movie has earned well, with an earning of $233.3 million. The worldwide collection of the movie stands at $438.3 million.

Deadpool & Wolverine has been seen as a messiah for Marvel, which has witnessed a rough patch recently when some of the big releases from the studio bombed at the box office.
Apart from box office numbers, the movie has received stellar reviews from the audience and critics alike. The movie has earned a 97 per cent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, the second-best score ever for a Marvel film after Tom Holland's Spider-Man: No Way Home.
The first two openings of Deadpool earned well at the box office. The first Deadpool movie opened to $133.7 million domestically in February 2016, making history for an R-rating. Meanwhile, Deadpool 2 debuted at $125.5 million.
Film critic Shomini Sen wrote in her review, ''It's been a while since I had fun watching a superhero film and laughed out at the innumerable. Since it is a superhero film with Logan as one of the main protagonists, there are certain emotional scenes as well but director Shawn Levy keeps it mostly light and simple which in turn makes Deadpool & Wolverine a blast."
Reynolds still hasn't lost his touch as the Merch to mouth hero, desperately trying to fit in and be accepted. Reynolds's banters, with dollops of self-deprecating, snarky humour makes the film delightful. Hugh Jackman brings in heft with his Wolverine act once again. The two balance the film's narrative well. One with his motormouth, the other with his brooding silence.''
