Al Pacino is possibly one of the most celebrated actors in Hollywood. With an enviable range of characters he’s played on screen, Al Pacino boasts of some of the most iconic films in his filmography. The actor was recently in the news for The Godfather and how he was almost fired from the film.
An excerpt from his upcoming autobiography made it to the internet as he revealed that there was a chance that he wasn’t a part of the cult film, The Godfather.
Al Pacino wanted an Oscar for this film
While promoting the same book titled Sonny Boy in the UK, he spoke about missing an Oscar for Scarface, a film that is very close to him. He said The Academy at the time, completely snubbed the film. Al Pacino played Tony Montana in Brian De Palma’s movie, immortalizing the phrase “Say hello to my little friend.”
Al Pacino told BBC in an interview, “I would have liked to have even got nominated for that one,” of Scarface.
The actor went on to win an Oscar a decade later for Scent of a Woman, while he has been nominated a further seven times, including for the first two Godfathers.

As for The Godfather, he recalled how Paramount questioned whether he was right to play Michael Corleone in the feature adaptation of Mario Puzo’s book. He suggested that Robert De Niro could have been the one to replace him. Al said, “Bob De Niro comes to mind.”
Al Pacino spoke about his early experience on The Godfather, “When your director talks to you and says you’re not delivering and you hear the chirping all around you start to feel like, ‘I don’t think I’m wanted here’. I didn’t know whether what I was doing was right or wrong but they were losing patience.”
