Malaika Arora's mom Joyce records statement, says she had reunited with ex-husband Anil few years back

Malaika Arora's mother, Joyce Polycarp has recorded her statement with the Mumbai Police after her ex-husband Anil Arora allegedly died by suicide on Wednesday morning.

According to the Mumbai Police, Anil jumped from the balcony of his 6th floor flat in Bandra. Joyce, in her statement, revealed that she and Anil had reunited a few years back and were living together again.

Joyce was inside their home when the incident took place.

What Joyce Arora said to police

In her statement to the police, Malaika and Amrita Arora's mother, Joyce Polycarp Arora, provided details about the tragic incident. Joyce explained that although they were divorced, they had started living together again over the past few years. Joyce mentioned that Anil had a routine to read the morning newspaper sitting in the balcony every morning.

On Wednesday morning, Joyce noticed Anil's slippers in the living room which made her come to the balcony looking for him.

However, he was not there. When she leaned over the balcony railing to look below, she saw a commotion, and the building’s watchman was shouting for help. Only then she realized something was terribly wrong.

Joyce further informed the police that Anil was not suffering from any major illness, and his health had generally been fine, apart from some knee pain.The statement highlights the shock of the incident, as there were no clear signs of distress or illness that might have indicated his intentions.

Malaika released an official statement in the evening, announcing the demise of her father, and requested for privacy.

"We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear father, Anil Mehta. He was a gentle soul, a devoted grandfather, a loving husband, and our best friend. Our family is in deep shock by this loss, and we kindly request privacy from the media and well-wishers during this difficult time. We appreciate your understanding, support, and respect," actress-model Malaika Arora posted on her social media handle.
