Released in 2001, exactly today October 19, Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein captured the hearts of Hindi cinema lovers. In the early 2000s, “Main Dilli bol raha hoon Maddy se,” was the most wholesome and iconic falling-in-love scene. Even today, it remains known as the very essence of falling in love.
This film was Dia Mirza’s debut in Bollywood and a staircase of stardom for R Madhavan; the rest is history as we know it.
Is a sequel awaited?
RHTDM was re-released on the silver screen for a week in August and it received all the love from the audiences like any new film or good story would have. Madhavan and Dia Mirza went live on Instagram and talked about what the audience was saying. Posting the video, they wrote a caption that read, “We just wanted to say a BIG thank you #RHTDM for all the love you have shown us over the last 23 years and the love you are giving the film in theatres right now.”
In a separate video, Madhavan posted the reaction of fans from the theatre, writing, “All the love and respect right back at you. I don’t know how to react. I’m so overwhelmed and grateful. God bless you all. #RHTDM THE FILM IS IN THEATERS IN INDIA FOR A WEEK. Thank you so much for one of my best-written scripts and dialogues.” He tagged the crew and makers of the film and thanked them.
Viewers speculate
Since then, Madhavan has been posting clips of the film’s songs on his Instagram which made movie buffs speculate if there is going to be a second part of the film. The two stars have been exchanging playful banter on their social media accounts which makes the audience suspect a sequel even more. However, there is no official confirmation yet.
Making of RHTDM
Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein (RHTDM) was directed by Gautam Vasudev Menon. It was re-released in theatres on August 30, 2024. It was produced by Vashu Bhagnani's Pooja Entertainment. The romantic drama also starred Saif Ali Khan. It is a Hindi remake of the Tamil hit Minnale, also directed by Madhavan. Songs like Sach Keh Raha Hai, Dil Ko Tumse and Zara Zara are marked as people’s favourite songs even today.
