Shahid Afridi has lashed out at Pakistan’s premier pacer and his son-in-law, Shaheen Shah Afridi, for his flop show against India in the recently concluded T20 World Cup game in Colombo. Shaheen was the lone quick used during India’s first innings, with Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha bowling six spinners. Shaheen bowled only two of the 20 overs, conceding 31 runs and picking one wicket, going over 15 runs per over. Moreover, Pakistan’s batting giant Babar Azam also faced heavy criticism for his shot selection during this marquee tie, which eventually cost Pakistan, who lost by 61 runs. Pointing fingers at two seasoned cricketers and also Shadab Khan, Shahid Afridi said, “If it was in my hands, I would not pick Babar, Shadab and Shaheen again in the T20 team. Meanwhile, ahead of the showdown tie in Colombo between the two arch-rivals, the two captains shared their thoughts on the handshake saga. However, moving to the game, India got off to a shaky start, with Abhishek Sharma falling on a four-ball duck. Ishan Kishan saved his team’s grace with a brilliant 77 before handy contributions from SKY and the lower-order propelled India to 175 for seven in 20 overs. The chase was always going to be tricky for Pakistan, and it unfolded likewise, with the Men in Green losing three wickets within the first two overs. Babar Azam also departed inside the Powerplay before a flurry of wickets dented Pakistan’s momentum. Keeper-batter Usman Khan fought a lone battle before Pakistan got bundled out on 114 in 18 overs, losing this crucial tie by 61 runs. With this win, India qualified for the Super 8s, becoming only the second team after West Indies to advance to the next round.

In the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 match between India and Pakistan at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Ishan Kishan on Sunday (Feb 15) played a brilliant knock of 77 runs from just 40 balls, hitting 10 fours and three big sixes before getting out to Saim Ayub in the ninth over. The 27-year-old left-hander looked very confident from the start. He hit a six and a four off fast bowler Shaheen Afridi in the second over and it made Pakistan captain Salman Agha bring in spinners. But Kishan attacked spinners as well and smashed a four off Agha and then scored several boundaries against Saim Ayub, Shadab Khan and Abrar Ahmed, who struggled to stop him. With this innings, Kishan became the fourth Indian player to score a half-century against Pakistan in a T20 World Cup match. T20 World Cup 2026: West Indies crush Nepal's hopes to seal Super 8 spot

Cricketer-turned-broadcaster Sanjay Manjrekar has slammed Team India’s ‘no shaking hands’ policy they deployed while playing against Pakistan at last year’s Asia Cup in the UAE. Although India chose against honouring the ‘spirit of the game’ (as many suggest it) because of the country's retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack, where Pakistan-based terrorists killed 24 civilians in broad daylight, Manjrekar feels Team India should either completely boycott playing Pakistan or end this drama of not shaking hands, further urging the players to either play ‘within the spirit of the game or don’t play at all.’ Taking to his X handle, Manjrekar wrote, “This ‘no shaking hands’ is such a silly thing that India has started. It’s unbecoming of a nation like ours. Either play properly within the spirit of the game or don’t play at all.”

The ‘no shaking hands’ policy first made headlines at the 2025 Asia Cup when India and Pakistan faced off in the first of three contested matches in that tournament. After winning the first match in Dubai, the Indian Team walked off the field without shaking hands with their counterparts, with the Pakistani players, lined up for the customary handshake, looking clueless. It continued until the finale, which India narrowly won, the matter escalated beyond this tournament and ahead of their marquee T20 World Cup showdown in Colombo on Sunday (Feb 15). Also read | SKY mimics Usman Tariq’s ‘pause’ bowling action in nets! While Agha said he expects the game to be played ‘within the spirit of the game’, Suryakumar shrugged off the hype around this ‘no shaking hands’ policy, saying firstly, it’s not the most important thing and instead cricket should be, secondly, urging everyone to wait until the match day to see if Indian players continue with it or shake hands with their opponents. "The game should be played in that spirit of cricket," Pakistan captain Agha said on Saturday. "What I expect doesn't matter. But I do feel the game should be played in the way it has been played since cricket started. Rest is up to them [India], whatever they want to do." On the other hand, SKY said, "Wait for 24 hours, no." "Why are you [speculating] now? We have come here to play cricket, we'll play good cricket. We will take the call [on handshake] later. Dine well, sleep,” he continued. Meanwhile, India and Pakistan lead Group A with two wins in their respective contested matches. A winner of this marquee showdown will become the first team to qualify for the Super 8s.

Sanjay Manjrekar slams Team India’s ‘no shaking hands’ policy against Pakistan, calling for sportsmanship. Is the rivalry taking a step too far?
