Sunrisers Leeds, owned by IPL franchise SunRisers Hyderabad, signed Pakistan's Abrar Ahmed in the Hundred during the inaugural men's auction in England on Thursday (Mar 12). The move has led to suspension of Leed's offical X account for 'violating the rules.' Although, it is not clear at this point that which rules were broken by the Hundred team. Abrar's signing came amid doubts about Pakistan players being bought by IPL-linked teams at the Hundred auction. He's the only Pakistan player to be bought by any of the four IPL-linked teams in the Hundred. The Leeds picked him for GBP 190,000 (INR 2.34 crore approx) at the auction.

Amid all the speculation of IPL-linked team not going to bid for the Pakistan players in the men's Hundred auction, the franchises and the England Cricket Board (ECB) had issued a statment priot of the event that no player should be boycotted because of the nationality.
Amid a standoff between two countries and reports of The Hundred teams with Indian owners and links to the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) avoiding picking Pakistani players in the auction, SunRisers Leeds – a Hundred team with Indian ownership- snapped Pakistan ace leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed for £190,000 on Thursday. "Throughout this period, the ICC's overriding priority has been the safety and welfare of everyone affected, including players travelling with spouses and young children. We will not move people until we are satisfied that the travel solution in place is safe, and that commitment will not change." Meanwhile, the ICC attributed the regular delays to the ongoing West Asia conflict, which it claims has caused ‘widespread and continuing disruption to the international air travel,’ including airspace closures across the Gulf region, missile warnings, and the cancellation or rescheduling of flights on short notice. "These are conditions entirely outside the ICC's control, and they have made each travel solution significantly more complex and time-consuming than under normal circumstances," the ICC continued.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has penalised the Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh 15 per cent of his match fees for inappropriately throwing at New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell during the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2026 final in Ahmedabad. With India on top of the Kiwis, having reduced them to 102 for five inside the 11th over, Arshdeep’s uncalled-for throw at Mitchell not only pissed him off, but also forced the on-field umpires to intervene. Arshdeep was found guilty of breaching Article 2.9 of the Code of Conduct, which relates to "throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment) at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match,” for which the ICC also slapped him with one demerit point, his first offence in the 24 months. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) appoints World Cup-winner Gary Kirsten as head coach, replacing Sanath Jayasuriya. Plus, the SLC cancels the Afghanistan series in the UAE due to the escalating West Asia conflict. Get the full details on the coaching revamp and tour postponement.

Sri Lanka has made some significant announcements following the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2026. While they named former World Cup-winning coach (with India) Gary Kirsten as their new head coach, replacing Sanath Jayasuriya, who quit following Sri Lanka’s sorry home campaign, the SLC scrapped the forthcoming Afghanistan series in the UAE over the raging West Asia conflict. Sri Lanka announced Kirsten’s appointment on Monday (Mar 9), signing him on a two-year contract, even though Jayasuriya’s contract was not set to expire until June end. The former South African opener, Kirsten, previously served as India coach from 2008 to 2011, and as South Africa coach from 2011 to 2013. His appointment was part of Sri Lanka's ‘efforts to revamp the structure of the National High-Performance Centre’ responsible for training elite players, the board said in a statement. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka co-hosted the T20 World Cup with eventual winners India but crashed out at the Super Eights stage, their fate sealed by a 61-run defeat to New Zealand. SL postpone AFG series in UAE Sri Lanka have indefinitely postponed a six-match white-ball series against Afghanistan that was due to start in the United Arab Emirates this week, an official said on Monday. "We had to cancel because of the flight situation... and the ongoing fighting in the region," a Sri Lanka Cricket official told AFP. The teams were scheduled to play three T20 internationals in Sharjah on March 13, 15 and 17, and three one-day internationals in Dubai on March 20, 22 and 25. It would have been the first time that Afghanistan had hosted Sri Lanka for a bilateral series. Fighting has spread across the Middle East since the United States and Israel attacked Iran on February 28, with Tehran launching retaliatory strikes. The conflict has disrupted flights across the region, including in Dubai, where the airport was briefly closed on Saturday as Iran fired drones and missiles at targets across the Gulf.
