After Samson informed his state association of his unavailability for a preparatory camp ahead of the squad selection last December, KCA enforced their policy of needing the players to appear for the camp, leading to his exclusion from the squad.

Rishabh Pant could be Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) new captain in the Indian Premier League (IPL), per the latest reports. LSG splurged a whopping $3.21 million (INR 27 crore) on Pant at the December auction in Jeddah, making him the most expensive IPL player ever.
Upon being declared the new captain next season onwards, Pant will succeed former gloveman KL Rahul at LSG, under whom the franchise made the playoffs in their first two seasons (since 2022), though they never reached the final. LSG&rsquo;s 2024 IPL season ended with them finishing seventh on the points table.

Speaking on Star Sports&rsquo; Deep Point podcast, Manjrekar said Kohli needs to play plenty of red-ball cricket to return to where he belongs&mdash;on the top. Suggesting how to achieve this sooner, he added Kohli must follow Pujara&rsquo;s path and join one of the county sides.
&ldquo;Kohli needs to play a lot of red-ball cricket. The first Test in England is in June, while the County Championship begins in April. He could join a county team, like Pujara did, and gain valuable match practice," Manjrekar said.
&ldquo;India can then evaluate his performances in the initial Test matches. If there are positive signs, he can continue. But the last thing you want is Kohli going there and struggling, as we&rsquo;ve seen before. That wouldn&rsquo;t be good for Indian cricket. Playing County cricket could be a very sensible move for him," he added.

However, per the reports in the lead-up to the squad announcement date, Nair was not going to get selected despite his towering performances in the domestic 50-over tournament, with the Champions Trophy squad announcement confirming this.
Upon being asked about thoughts on not picking Nair, Agarkar revealed they discussed his name during the chat, but looking at how stacked the Indian ODI middle order is, he, unfortunately, had to wait for his turn.
"Yeah, it was tough. Those are really special performances. Someone who averages 700-plus. We did have a chat," Agarkar said during the presser in Mumbai.&nbsp;
"At the moment, finding a spot in the squad, in this team, is really difficult. Look at the guys who have been picked. All average well in excess of mid-40s. Unfortunately, you can't fit everyone in a squad of 15. But those performances certainly make you take notice. Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh came down hard on BCCI&rsquo;s new ten-point policy document aimed at bringing unity among players following Team India&rsquo;s horrid run in Tests in the past four months.
Besides being transparent on why India lost six out of the last eight contested Tests (three to New Zealand at home and three against Australia Down Under), Harbhajan sounded stunned over why the mentioned policies come across as something new for the players and the fans.

Among the ten changed policies the BCCI decided upon following a high-profile meeting in Mumbai early this week, a restriction on the duration of players&rsquo; families staying with them (on the short and long tours), all players, if not representing the country across any series must play the domestic cricket, and those not abiding by it bound to face repercussions beyond selection snub, are the top highlights. &nbsp;
"Let me first put this on record. When I was reading the travel policy document reported by the media, I hardly found anything new from the last time I represented India as a centrally-contracted cricketer," Harbhajan said in a chat with PTI.
"At least nine out of 10 points, including duration of family visits, staying in the same hotel, practice timings, all are same. My question is, if these rules were in place during my time, who all have altered it and when? That should be probed," Harbhajan continued.&nbsp;

One of the points mentioned was that the BCCI barred players' wives and partners from staying with them beyond two weeks on long tours and seven days on short ones.
Reflecting on this, Harbhajan said these pointers show that everyone looks diverted from the main issue, which was poor form and application of the technique against pace, bounce and spin, which caught Indian batters by the throat during the past two series.

KCA Secretary Vinod S Kumar stated that the association didn&rsquo;t want a youngster to lose his place because of Samson&rsquo;s uncertain availability status. &nbsp;
Per the latest reports, the sources close to the information revealed the selectors could bring this matter up during the Champions Trophy squad announcement meeting scheduled this week. The source added that the selectors are clear on keeping domestic cricket paramount, citing Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer&rsquo;s examples of how they faced the wrath of devaluing India&rsquo;s domestic cricket.&nbsp;

"The BCCI reserves the right to take disciplinary action against a player which may include sanction against the concerned player for participating in all BCCI conducted tournaments including the Indian Premier League and deduction from retainer amount/match fees under BCCI Player contract,&rdquo; the statement further read.
Meanwhile, the other guidelines read, "The players cannot travel separately for tours, matches and training while the families (partners and children) can say up to just two weeks on long tours."
The players&rsquo; staff on the series and tours are restricted, with no player being allowed personal shoots or endorsements during a series/tour while ensuring availability for BCCI shoots/functions.
