Indian fans were shushed at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Sunday (Jun 9) as Pakistan pacers sent openers Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli back to the pavilion inside powerplay overs.
The match was delayed by more than 50 minutes due to rain as Pakistan skipper Babar Azam won the toss and opted to bowl first. With the conditions overcast and sporadic rain showers anticipated, Rohit rues that he would have likedto bowl first as well.
"We would have done that (fielded). We have to assess as quickly as possible how the pitch plays and then try to get a decent score," said Rohit
"Obviously it can be challenging upfront but we've spoken of what needs to be done as a batting unit and then we'll try to defend that score. Every game is important. You're playing the World Cup, it's important you try and show up and show up pretty well," he added.
After the delayed start, both teams came out in the middle but had to return after the end of first over. Shaheen Afridi took the new ball and got the ball to jag around just a bit but Rohit imposed himself by flicking one off his pads over backward square leg for a massive six.
