T20 World Cup 2024: Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma in Indian colours
Team India has enjoyed their time in the United States during the ongoing T20 World Cup as they now look forward to the Super 8 stage of the tournament having won all three matches so far. However, not all is good in the camp after Shubman Gill’s latest social media act raised a debate among cricket fans. While reports have also stated that Punjab-born players are likely to be sent back home due to disciplinary reasons, this is not exactly the case.
Gill-Rohit become talking point
On Saturday (June 15), social media users spotted that Gill unfollowed Rohit on Instagram which raised multiple questions on the duos relationship. One ofthe taking point was Gill’s indiscipline and frustration of being dropped from the T20 World Cup squad.
It was reported that he was unhappy with Rohit’s choice of picking Yashasvi Jaiswal ahead of him for not participating actively in the practice sessions. It is worth noting that, Gill is part of the Indian team as a reserve player and not a permanent player, meaning he could not participate in the T20 World Cup unless a batter has been ruled out.
After the issue, some media reports have stated that Gill could be sent back home along with Avesh Khan with the former’s discipline being a major reason.

However, according to close sources from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), no final decision has yet been made on the duo and they continue to be part of the team.
Both Avesh and Gill could likely leave the reserve side if the management thinks they are no longer required during the Super 8 stage which takes place in the islands of the Caribbean in the West Indies.
For now, they will continue to be with Team India with focus on the Canada match followed by the Super 8 clashes against Australia, Afghanistan and potentially Bangladesh.
