Sourav Ganguly to be next KKR mentor? IPL team shares heartfelt birthday wish amid Gautam Gambhir exit reports
Ganguly backs Gambhir for India head coach role as Dravid's tenure set to end
Former India cricketer Sourav Ganguly turned 52 on Monday (Jul 8). Wishing the former BCCI chief and current Delhi Capital mentor, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) posted a heartfelt message for him on social media
“Maharaja. Dada. The Prince of Kolkata. Happy Birthday, Sourav Ganguly!" wrote KKR on its official X account.

The post comes at a time when KKR mentor Gautam Gambhir is being touted as Rahul Dravid's replacement to be the next India head coach. If Gambhir, the only applicant, accepts the job then he'd have to resign from his position as KKR mentor.
Could Ganguly become the next KKR mentor? Only time will tell!
In the past, Ganguly has played for the three-time IPL champion from 2008 to 2010. He was let go ahead of the 2011 auction and was ironically replace by Gambhir as skipper. In 2011 and 2012, Ganguly played for now-defunct Pune Warriors Indiabut bid adieu to cricket for good after that.

Under Ganguly, India transformed into a side which could challenge oppositions away from home. India shared the 2000 ICC Champions Trophy under his leadership before being the runners up in 2003 ODI World Cup.
Ganguly captained India in 49 Tests, winning 21 of them and losing 13 along with 15 draws. In ODIs, Ganguly led India in 146 matches and won in 76 of those matches.
As a batter, the southpaw was a treat to watch when on song, especially in 50-over cricket. He has 11,363 runs in ODIs - the ninth most overall and the third most for India after Sachin Tendulkar (18,426) and Virat Kohli (13,848).
Ganguly also has 22 ODI hundreds to his name - joint 10th most overall and fourth most for India behind Kohli (50), Tendulkar (49) and Rohit Sharma (31).
In Tests, the former batter has 7,212 runs - the seventh most for India.
