
India spinner Ravi Ashwin had a wonderful outing during the first Test of the two-match series against Bangladesh which finished on Sunday (Sep 22). Ashwin was adjudged Player of the Match for his 113 in the first innings and 6/88 in the second innings as India won the match by 280 runs.
During the match, Ashwin created multiple records including taking his 37th career five-for-the second most in Test history same as Australia's Shane Warne and just behind Sri Lanka's Muthiah Muralidaran (67).

With a ton in the first innings, his sixth in Tests, Ashwin also became the first Indian spin all-rounder and fifth player overall to have 300+ wickets and 20 or more 50+ scores in Test cricket.
Ashwin now has 20 fifth-plus scores in Tests (six hundred and 14 fifties) to go with his 522 wickets - the most in the list. The other names on the list are England all-rounder Ian Botham, Pakistan's Imran Khan, India's Kapil Dev and New Zealand's Daniel Vettori.
Ashwin also surpassed former India great Anil Kumble for most wickets in the fourth innings by an Indian spinner. Ashwin now has 99 wickets in the fourth innings for India, going past Kumble's 94.
The off-spinner's ton in the first innings was his fourth while batting at number 8 or lower in Test cricket. Only Kiwi Vettori (5) has more Test hundreds than Ashwin while batting at number 8 or lower.
Overall, Ashwin also surpassed West Indies great Courtney Walsh for most Test wickets in history. Walsh had 516 wickets in the Test and Ashwin, after his six-for in the second Bangladesh innings, is at 522 - eight short of the current highest Test wicket-taker Nathan Lyon's 530.
Chasing a daunting 515, Bangladesh were bowled out for 234 shortly before lunch on day 4 as India went one up in the series. The second Test of the series will be played from September 27 in Kanpur.
