India have locked horns with Tom Latham-led New Zealand in the third and final Test at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Friday (Nov 1). Winning the toss, NZ opted to bat first and have made two changes coming into the series finale, having an unassailable 2-0 lead. Indiaare without Jasprit Bumrah for the final Test. At the coin toss, Indian captain Rohit Sharma explained the reason for no Bumrah in the playing XI.
At the toss, Rohit said, "Unfortunately, Bumrah is not well (viral illness), Siraj comes in for him."
Bumrah, thus, ended the series with three scalps in two games.
Siraj, on the other hand, has a huge task to fill in for the senior pacer. The former struggledin the series openerin Bengaluru, and, thus, he will have to be at his best given there is no Bumrah.
Rohit further said after losing the toss, "We understand and accept that we haven't played well through the series. Gives us another opportunity to try and correct those things. Looks like a good pitch. Hopefully we can restrict them as quickly as possible and then focus with the bat. Our focus is on this Test match. We want to try and play well in this Test match. In the back of your mind, you need to look at what lies ahead (WTC final), but it's important to stay in present, focus on what we need to to today and worry about all those things later."
